Today In Spurs History: 25th March

1922 – A year after having won won the FA Cup, Spurs were back in the semi finals where they met Preston North End, for the second successive season. On this occasion we were not to be so lucky. Having taken a first half lead through Jimmy Seed, Preston fought back in the second half to win 2-1.

1950 – Arthur Rowe’s ‘Push and Run’ side won promotion to the first division in 1950 and on this day in history they beat West Ham 4-0, with goals from Sonny Walters (2), Les Bennett and Les Medley. Spurs were promoted as champions and of course won the first division title the following season.

1978 – Having been relegated to the second division, Spurs were on the promotion hunt and earned a 3-3 draw with Mansfield on a quagmire of a pitch. Our goals were scored by Chris Jones and Glenn Hoddle, who converted a penalty and a spectacular free kick.

  2. Soap operas couldn’t match the dramas at the lane in recent times, the managers comings and goings the dice with relegation players not performing being sold coming back talking up the Champions League and now actually occupying that last spot with our destiny in our own hands. Absolutely incredible. Tell you what its never boring being a spurs fan. Oh and did I mention us at times playing some attractive football? Don’t think my heart can take all this need to have a sit down and a glass of water. Lillywhitetilidie.
