Today In Spurs History: 26th April

1946 – Ralph Coates was born on this day in 1946. Signed from Burnley, Coates played 248 times for Tottenham, scoring 23 goals. Amongst these strikes was the winner in the 1973 League Cup final against Norwich.

1970 – Life begins at 40 for Dean Austin. Our former right back played 154 games for the club. In 2007 he was named by The Times at number 35 on a list of the 50 worst Premier League players.

1973 – Chris Perry completes our trio of birthday boys and is 37 years old today. The diminutive centre back cost Spurs £4m and made 146 appearances, scoring four goals. Perry still plays for Southampton.

1978 – Spurs were in need of a home victory over Hull City, as we attempted to win promotion back to the first division. Steve Perryman scored the only goal to give us a 1-0 win.

1986 – Tottenham won 5-2 on QPR’s plastic pitch, thanks to goals from Mark Falco (2), Clive Allen (2) and Glenn Hoddle.
