Today In Spurs History: 29th April
1967 – On this day in 1967 Tottenham took on Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup semi-final. Jimmy Greaves and Frank Saul scored the goals to give us a 2-0 lead and though Forest pulled one back, but we held out for a 2-1 victory to reach the final.
1989 – Millwall and their lovely fans were in the top flight and Spurs were walloping them 5-0 at The Den. A Paul Stewart hat-trick was accompanied by goals from Paul Walsh and Vinny Samways.
1995 – Jurgen Klinsmann was on target for Tottenham in the North London derby, earning Spurs a 1-1 draw at Highbury.

The reports are a natural sounding out however as dealing with a club with a good chance of getting into the Champions League, the chances of sealing the deal are minimum especially with the current valuation of £25mill considering his age & importance in the Spurs team.
These reports usually emanate from a buying club to unsettle or sound out the selling club/player however it is pure speculation particularly the link to Carrick.
Spurs will value the player at the £50mill mark and the likelihood of Man Utd even getting close to achieving the sale of Modric will depend on whether Spurs get into the Champions league & whether Man Utd will pay the asking price.
The Berbatov deal left a bitter taste in the mouth of Spurs, they purchased that player for £10mill & sold for £30mill at age 28/29, taking in all the factors it is likely Spurs will start at an asking price of £50mill, should they feel the players head is turned, which again would be difficult with a number of compatriot Croatian internationals in the Squad & a manager that he get’s on with.
Regarding Carrick, it is most unlikely the player or the club, Spurs, would sanction such a deal considering the players Spurs have in his position & also the fact that Carrick would probably not be looking to coming back to Spurs. It’s more likely IF a sale is to go through, it would be for cash only, again at a starting price of £50mill.
As for Levy not caring, it’s worth considering the value to potential investment partners which Levy is currently seeking, that a star player adds & were it to be viewed negatively, which it most certainly would, by the Spurs fans & management staff it is likely to cause more problems than provide solutions for Levy, therefore the only chance of Man Utd obtaining a sale agreement, is 1)if they are able to unsettle the player, which is highly unlikely, 2)if Spurs do not qualify for the champions league & consider it good value to sell Modric at between £30mill to £50mill, again highly unlikely.
If Modric was sold, Spurs have able replacements however his value to the team, is his all around ability, hard work & most importantly his influence on the team.
If we consider Modric a left sided player, we could place Bale, Kranjaer or try Taraabt or Giovanni Dos Santos in that role. However Modric playing in the middle would cause us much more problems trying to replace him.
You can’t compare the impact of Modric with that of Lampard, Gerrard, Fabregas, Van Persie, Scholes, Xavi, Messi, Kaka, Totti, Pirlo just to mention some of them. It means that if we really want to become a world class team we need world class players. This is a very crucial point. I would sell him for the right price to buy a better one. Someone who could win a few games per reason by himself and being a true leader.
