Club captain Ledley King suffered a setback on Tuesday as he attempted to make yet another comeback from injury. King seemed to breeze through training before suffering problems with his troublesome groin right at the end of the session.

Harry Redknapp broke the bad news: “Ledley was playing great and then, with the last kick of the morning, did his groin again.”

It’s not been confirmed whether the player will need further surgery but it seems to be a distinct possibility. Redknapp added: “We’ve been deciding if he needs an operation or not, so we’ve been pushing him a bit. He’ll have to talk to the medical people now to make that decision.”

Ledley has made unlikely, even miraculous comebacks before, but at the age of 30 and with news of this latest setback, fans are left wondering again as to whether the dreaded ‘retirement’ announcement is just around the corner.

  1. If he was a horse they would have shot him long ago. He’s using up wages and a place on the 25 man roster. He’s been our best defender in years but I’m afraid this situation with his injuries is becoming a farce. I hate to say it but I think this season should be his last.

  2. for his own health’s sake, maybe he should call it a day. I have nothing but admiration for his desire to keep returning after so many injuries than many other sportsmen would throw in the towel as a result of, but he could do himself serious long term damage if he carries on. Give him a role at Spurs somewhere, he is a true Tottenham legend, and had it not been for these cruel injuries I strongly believe he would have been an England one too.

  3. He should just retire. complete waste of time even offering him an extension last year and its decisions like this that make me mad. we have a problem with central defenders and have never played the same back for in two consecutive games and we waste more money on keeping Ledley!!! what a joke!

  4. Jimmy the saint he dragged us to fourth last year and we owed it to a legend to give him a chance. He will no if its over and i for one never begrudged him his swan song his heart must be Broken and we need to help mend it. My career never got going because of a disease that finished i.t My wish was to play for Spurs or my home town Widnes by Playing Rugby League Ledley will have some great memory’s its a shame European Cup was not amongst them with a tiny Miracle it still could be if its not Thanks for being a great Spurs player.

  5. It really does hurt to see Ledley go through this.. throughout the yrs he’s been the one player we could always count on.. yes, in recent seasons he’s had some bad luck with injuries, but even when he’s not been able to train, he’s never let us down on the pitch.. the guy even refuses to kick a ball with his son to try preserve his knees for us! Despite all of our problems with the center back position, I don’t for 1 minute wish to see Ledley dropped.. I know he’s started to be TOO unreliable.. but after the loyalty that he’s shown us and the passion that he’s played with, I think its only fair he receives something back.. In the NBA and NFL, numbers are often retired to commemorate special players.. I’d seriously place Ledley in that category

  6. Time to call it a day for this cnt!!! Call him captain yet the fukwit hasnt played for how long now? Taking up money and a place and hes got too used to getting paid for doing fuk all!!! get rid of the cnt TODAY!!! He is now surplus to requirements. Dont ever want to hear his fakkin name again….totally fed up with this farce.

  7. As a Spurs legend and for what he achieved for THFC last season then he deserved this season but as a Spurs fan I know and understand the club must come first as his time may be over. It’s the last year of his contract which means he can sort out his injuries and then any future playing. There’s no reason why Levy can’t offer him a pay as you play contract as after all he won’t ever pass a medical elsewhere. That gives us the best of both worlds with a world class defender when fit and not paying him for any long periods when injured.

  8. LEAVE THE MAN ALONE, HE IS STILL QUALITY AND CAN DO A JOB WHEN CALLED UPON AND A WORLD CLASS ONE AT THAT! HE HAS BEEN INJURED BEFORE AND ALWAYS COMES BACK BETTER THEN EVER!

  9. dav,,, get your head out of your asshole and wake up and smell the coffee. Hes had his day, now he is just a liability. What good is a player who cant play?? No fukkin good at all. Forget all this player loyalty sh!t you plank, he has been fukkin well paid for doing what he was supposed to do in the past. Now he cant do the job he is paid for, so its time to bail out and pull the ripcord.

  10. FUKOFFLEDLEY; IF YOU HAVENT GOT ANYTHING INTTELLIGENT TO SAY DONT SAY ANYTHING! YOU MUST BE AN ARSENAL FAN OR SOMETHING, MAYBE YOU SHOULD TRY GOING TO WHL AND WATCHING THE GUY WHEN HE PLAYS! YOU SHOULD SHOW MORE RESPECT FOR A ONE OF OUR BEST PLAYERS OVER THE LAST 10 YEARS! IF IT WASNT FOR LEDLEYS HEROICS LAST YEAR WE WOULD BE WATCHING UEFA CUP CHANNEL FIVE CRAP!

  11. Steve,,,,we need a constant and settled back 4. If we get that and they are playing well together, why upset the team by bringing this cnt in to play once in a blue moon when he feels he can manage a game? We would just be de-stabilising the defence we have. This has been going on far too long, and getting more and more ridiculous by the week!!!! Id rather we shot him and give the money to charity than keep fukkin wasting it.

  12. So he got us to 4th all on his own did he? No he fukkin didnt. Its about time we stop wasting money and go buy another world class cb, coz there is plenty of them out there. Loyalty means nothing in football nowadays, only results, as every team manager will tell you. Its time to buy a new player, who can actually play week in week out.
