The rumour mill seems oddly quiet this morning with no new names being touted in connection with a move to Spurs. Suarez again gets a mention but most of the attention seems to be on yesterday’s name Giuseppi Rossi.
With regards to the exit door, that’s a different story. There’s a suggestion that Spurs have rejected a loan offer from West Ham for Robbie Keane, but most of the focus is on Roman Pavlyuchenko.
After Darren Bent, everyone expected the transfer window to get a bit exciting and as part of that, there was a strong hint that Pav would be off to Tyneside as Bent’s direct replacement. However, Steve Bruce has apparently baulked at the Tottenham asking price. With John Carew on his way to Stoke, Bruce may be more likely to look at Ricardo Fuller, who is much cheaper, and rightly so.
In the meantime, Roman has stated that he has turned down two contract extension offers from Spurs. Speaking to Sport Express he says: “The proposed conditions do not suit me yet. The amount became a bit more, but not as much as I want. But this is not the only reason I have taken a pause – I desire to see what else will happen before the transfer window closes.”
The headline to this story stated that he needs first team football, but the player’s quote suggests that money may have something to do with it. Either way, his comments have firmly re-ignited the ‘Pav to go’ rumours.

Bye Bye Pav, bye bye Keano, lets get Llorente and Suarez.
“Taxi for Roman…!!”.
Contract extension with pay rise ? Goodness ..what is Levy think about ? Probably a ploy to get him to sign that contract and ensure we sign him without a loss.
In my opinion, Palyuchenko spurts of brilliance is just not good enough and I think he is big headed enough to think he is better than he really is.
Most of time look like a little lost boy on the field. Please go and no more Russian players anymore at WHL.
Levy has proved himself brilliant at getting top dollar for the players we’ve sold, but sometimes you’ve just got to take a financial hit and admit you made a mistake on a player. No one is ever going to pay £10m+ for a lazy player who is now 29.
Another Berbatov with much less talent
He’s behaving like a spoilt child, does he honestly believe he deserves more. I am surprised that he even got offered a new contract. It might shock you to know with what I have just written is that I have been a Pav fan, but I feel let down that he very rarely shows any effort or passion whilst playing. He is obviously a player with talent, but I think that he can only shine when he is the big star in an average team. When he is playing in a team with many stars, many of whom shine brighter he just fades away.
If necessary we should take a financial loss on him before problems in the dressing room start to affect the fantastic team spirit this team currently has.
We currently have 4 strikers, but i would swap all 4 for 2 others who really could score consistently. It is the lack of goals from our strikers that has hampered our rise in the league. So many times this season the team has played well but failed in front of goal.
I am col on this i feel none of the 4 strikers are of a top grade when it comes to the elite of europe.I would sell all four and replace with Rossi for his skill around the box,Hulk for his power and shot and Lukaka for well for the future. At the end of the season i would buy Elmander just because his contract is up and you would get him cheap and put one over bolton after the thrashing they gave us.Never going to happen but hell would be nice.
if Levy buys an expensive striker like hulk i’ll eat my hat! I do agree our strikers are not good enough..none of em. i reckon obika would do a beeter job. if we buy forlan i’ll be forlorn same for rossi. crap players getting on nicely in an easy league. Spurs need to stop fiddling with the purse stringa and open the bugger up to the tune of 30 or 40 million quid..then everyone will know we mean business. but sadly it’s all bollox! Yids by name Yids by nature!
There is no way Levy will pay over 20 million quid for players or afford to pay over 70,000 quid weekly as salary for any player. Spurs doesn’t have a big enough stadium at the moment to generate sufficient revenue to pay for luxury.
Any1 hear this rumour woodgate to arse nil on loan if that happened i would go absolutely ape shit. Hopefuli just a crap journalist with crap all to do
Firstly i was a striker and you cant get any form in and out of the team the big problem is we now have five strikers if you count Vans 4411 system. The pressure is to much because you are only one game from being replaced . We have never started with the same strike force twice, Lets see why our strikers cant score Robbie Keane was flying after is 14 goals in his loan spell ar Celtic and carried on his impressive form in pre season in America. The we started with a 0-0 against Man City and then the rotations started then defensive injury started to hit us hard and with every set back came changes with every champions league game we changed the Team Kaboul Gallas Bassong Huddlestone Coluka King Dawson have all played Centre half in various pairings. The attack the same problem Defoe Crouch Keane Pavlyucheko Van have all bean rotated regularly the midfield has also had many changes and mixes Lennon Modric Huddlestonne Bale Van Lennon Jenas Kranjar Palacios Sandro Bentley Dosantos Townsend and now Pienaar has arrived. The major problem with a big squad is this to keep them all sharp you have to use all the three subs unless you have sending off’s secondly your back line needs to be the same unless injury’s and suspensions dictate otherwise. This has not happened and this is why our strikers are not Scoring, we are also badly missing Huddlestone. What surprises me is why Harry has not mentioned him and is injury what did he do to is ankle that has meant he has missed so many games is it ligaments joint bone is it like Freddie Flintoff no one seem to say anything with Defoe we seen is injury happen Hudds we never seen it coming and according to Harry Spurs medics where using injections to help him play and that is sad. Our best performers this year so far is Mr Injury . Mr Rotation and Mr Under Used Subs A new striker wont make a different’s
