Harry Redknapp states that Spurs deserved at least a point from Saturday’s game at Newcastle. An injury time strike from Aaron Lennon secured a point for Spurs after trailing to Coloccini’s goal after sixty minutes.
“We absolutely deserved a point and it would have been an injustice if we hadn’t got something out of the game.” said Harry, speaking on the club website.
Although no-one can say that our last three league game have exactly yielded poor results, 2 points from a possible 9 sees some gaps opening up between ourselves and the teams above us.
For those of us that couldn’t make the long trip up North, it was impossible to come up with any verdict on Saturday’s game. Listening to Talksport around 5pm, fans were stating that Jermaine Defoe wasted countless chances and that we desperately need a striker if we’re to stand any chance of finishing at least fourth this season.
Restricted, as some of us were to very brief MOTD highlights, other than coming to the conclusion that Cuducini is a better bet than Gomes for the run in, it was impossible to tell what went wrong. So what is the verdict from Saturday?

Errm.. Definitely not Cudacini over Gomes anyway!
Cant agree with the comment about Carlo, should have done better with the goal, despite a few decent stops, didn’t do anything out of the ordinary!
“other than coming to the conclusion that Cuducini is a better bet than Gomes for the run in”
What!?
Cudicini was clearly at fault for the goal, Gomes would have saved that. CC made a couple of good saves, one of them was a “TV save” though.
Gomes is no doubt a better goalkeeper than CC, and we should stick with him for the rest of the season.
One point away to Newcastle not enough though. It was good e couple of seasons ago when we were chasing a place in the UEFA cup. Champions League qualification demands three points home and away against teams like Newcastle.
clearly a striker capable of putting the ball in the back of the net consistently is a desperate need. and before anyone comes on here saying defoe just needs some games, or a couple of goals to get going, he has never been good enough.
Its very simple – when Jenas starts we NEVER WIN. I heard a stat on radio that Jenas has not scored in his last 38 appearances – I cannot remember an assist – what does he do for the team. Harry lost patience with him after one too many passes to the opposition and substituted him on Saturday – we went on to equalise. Its like having 9 outfield players when he plays – i know we cant sell him because no one will buy him but still Harry commits team suicide every time he starts with him – every time. Yes he “played” in the defeat at Everton.
the problems were that we couldn’t finish and pienaar. We need a world class (not cup-tied) centre forward. Would Oscar Cardozo work? Pienaar was always looking to make a good pass but never did. Kranjcar replaced him and was excellent. With Bale injured we really need someone of Kranjcar’s caliber to cover on the left of midfield.
KB21 – We have got someone of Kranjcars caliber to replace Bale, his name IS Niko Kranjcar! To be honest he isn’t really good enough and just seems to let games pass him by, at least with Peinaar, if he isn’t playing well he works 110% and battles to the end.
£ games, 2 points, mid table form. +6 goal difference says it all, shows the class difference between ourselves and the top four
Gomes would have saved that and punched clear a lot more crosses.
We’ve needed an upgrade on the “beloved” Defoe for ages. The fact that no club ever comes in for him is evidence enough of his one dimensional, unintelligent and limited abilities.
Jenas is too limited and Kranjcar came across chunky.
jERMAINE DEFOE IS ANOTHER OVER HYPED OVER RATED ENGLISH MISFIRING FOOTBALLER AND IS NEVER UP FOR THE BIG MOMENTS IN A SPURS OR ENGLAND SHIRT. AS FOR jENAS….HE IS TO SPURS WHAT ROLF HARRIS TO THE ART COMMUNITY, A JOKE! rEDNAPP HAS DONE A GREAT JOB FOR US, BUT HIS INSISTENCE TO FIELD MEDIOCRE PLAYERS I.E. CROUCH BEGGARS BELIEF. WE WILL STRUGGLE TO ACHIEVE TOP 4 THIS SEASON, AS WE HAVE BECOME QUITE DEPENDANT ON 2 PLAYERS ‘WINNING’ GAMES FOR US. cOYS
Ossie – relax a little. We just came off the back of Spurs’ best run in years. Then we have 2 Everton and Newcastle away, and Man U at home – that is a tough sequence of games, and 2 points is ok. If you take the last 6 games, then Spurs are fourth on current form. Kb21 – Niko plays SIX MINUTES plus added time, and you have made that conclusion? Pienaar was on his debut. May I remind you how many games it took Bale to reach the level he is at now? Or Modric this season? Judge Pienaar after a few apps.
Tony Rich – I think you aree living in the past mate. Newcastles home form isn’t great and are an average team at best, not the Newcastle of 4/5 years ago. Also, Everton are as good as their position in the league suggests they are, they beat us without their best players and a serious lack of firepower! When are you going to stop making excuses and step into the real world?
We had a great chance to move 4 point clear of Chelsea 2 weeks ago, we are now in danger of being 3 point behind Chelsea with a goal difference that is laughable.
Pinaar first game for us give him a break, our strikers are not scoring where was Pav. DO not get me started on Jenas he is so lightweight it is unreal, Modric is then left on his own in Midfield. If we are to progress further this season Jenas must be loaned out or sold preferably to Arsenal.
…I did not make one excuse…. The reality is that it is a marathon and not a sprint. We are doing fine. We got 4 points off Newcastle, which is more than Arsenal will get this season, and Chelsea will not be getting any more than 4 from them. Plus we got 6 points off Villa, and City just lost to them. City also lost at home to Everton too. All give and take.
Well, TonyRich, I think you are forgetting that we stumbled a number of times in the beginning of the marathon and therefore cannot afford to stumble again. A lost game and two draws are not a crisis, but it certainly is not top-four form. Yes city lost at home to everton and now against villa, but then they got a point at WHL (still have us at home) and beat Chelsea at home, no draw as was all we could manage. They are 4 points ahead of us if we win our game in hand – that is the truth, which means that they have done better than us so far. Which again menas that we have to do better than them in the second part of the campaign. And, that is clearly not happening at the moment, which is all i am pointing out. even if our results haven’t been disasterous.
Like i said above, a draw against n’castle away is fine for a Europa League-chasing team. It is not good enough for a team that is aiming for CL, though.
