Everyone played their part in Tottenham’s famous win last night including all the substitutes. You might have forgiven Harry Redknapp for waiting for a smaller stage on which to re-introduce Johnathan Woodgate, but the boss had no hesitation in bringing Woody into the fray after Flamini’s horror tackle on Corluka.
Woodgate himself was relieved to return: “It was a great feeling to get back. A lot of people doubted whether I could, but you have got to show the determination to not let the bad times get you down.”
Woody nearly went out on loan to Wolves in January and there was talk of him even losing his squad number, but his return was a timely one for Spurs. He looked like he’d never been away and if Woodgate can retain his fitness, then the team will be stronger for being able to call on a player of his talent.
