Jermain Defoe has been criticised on this website in the past week for everything from his performance on the pitch to his choice of bedroom furniture.

Finally he broke his Premiership duck for 2010-11, with two long range strikes against Wolves that should have been enough to win the game.

Speaking after the match Defoe said: “As a forward when you are scoring goals, you are full of confidence and buzzing about. When you are not scoring your game changes, you start snatching at things or take an extra touch because you want to be so precise.

“But I’ve always tried to get into the right positions to score and I’ll never stop doing that and it was good to get the two at Wolves.”

The two goals take his Spurs tally to 99 and Jermain has targeted the AC Milan game as the perfect stage for his 100th Tottenham goal.

“If I score my 100th goal for Tottenham on Wednesday night there will be a reason why. I say that because I always believe things happen for reason but it would be nice to do it.”

Whether he gets the chance remains to be seen. You can see Defoe playing some part on Wednesday, but with the possible return of Peter Crouch in a 4-5-1 formation, it may be from the bench.
