While Harry may feel that Spurs are only a couple of players away from being a top four side again, many fans and TV pundits think that one extra player is needed in all areas of the pitch – goalkeeper, defence, midfield and attack.

For the rest of this week we’ll take a look at some of the names available and try to work out who the club should sign to get us back in the Champions League running. Starting with the number one position, Gomes still has many in the stands and he could well be between the posts by the time 2011-12 comes around. Others however, are tired of the many mistakes and believe that a new goalkeeper is crucial if Tottenham are to stop shedding points.

An interesting name emerged yesterday as Brad Friedel was linked with both Spurs and his old club Liverpool. Friedel is 39 now so could give maybe two years at best but he could be the steady option that Harry would go for.

Other names suggested from the Premiership include Ben Foster, Shay Given and Scott Carson while moving abroad, Manuel Neuer and Maarten Stekelenburg have been linked.

Tomorrow we’ll look at the defence but for now, if Harry does look to change the keeper, who should he make our number one target?

  1. I’ve always regarded Friedel as the best goalkeeper in England, but he’s 39 now. Please, no Carson or Foster, they’re both as error-prone as Gomes. Neuer has signed for Bayern, they claim. He would be outstanding. Don’t know much about Stekelenburg, but have high regard for Given.

  2. Given is solid, but not amazing. It’s no coincidence Hart dislodged him as Man City’s No.1 while he had very limited experience. Neuer or Stekelenburg would be an upgrade on Gomes, but there are very few others who would be.

  3. Stekelenburg although the best keeper in Holland is a no go as Ajax have just won the Eredivisie so he’s now guaranteed to play in the Champions League next season. Fergie’s sniffing around Ajax as well as he’s seeking a replacement for Van der Sar. I’d go for Given, he’s top notch imo.

  4. i think we should go for handanovich, one of the best around. very reliable and tough as nails compared to gomes the wus with his gumshield.

  5. I dont know in this position, I would have Foster because he is English and will get better, I think hes made the most saves this season also.

In Defence I dont think we need anyone, Kyle Walker is coming back so nobody needed for me

In Midfield I would like a player tricky on the wing as competition for Lennon but then again I only say that because the player is Marko Marin and he blew my mind earlier this season in the 2-2 draw, but once again I dont think we really need him.

Strikers I think we need 2, Defoe will want to go as he isnt a regular even tho all 3 are crap and anywhere else he goes he will be main man, Pav HR dont like.
I would get Falcao and Drogba or Anelka

    Basically IN- Falcao 16m, Drog 10m, Foster 8m 34mil
    OUT- Bassong 6m, Hutton 6m, Krancjar 7m, Jenas 6m, O’Hara 6m, Gio 5m, Keane 6m, Bentley 7m, Gomes 8m, Defoe 12m, Pav 10m, Woodgate FREE Total 80million and 13 players off wage bill

Bring Caulker, Naughton, Walker, Rose, Bostock, Kane and Townsend into the squad

  6. Go for Handanović, he is 100% better and the dowsn’t make silly mistakes 😀

And he isn’t so expencive though 😀

  7. I would buy Maarten Stenkelberg for 10 mil to replace Cudicini and a young keeper to replace Pletikosa .
Jans Vertonghen for 11 mil to replace Bassong and Woody.
Edin Hazard- 15 mil or Lucas Podolski for 8mil in midfield to replace Kranjcar.
And up front I would Buy 2 of Benzema 18mil, Agureo 25mil (apparently Aguero wants to leave), Kevin Gamiero 15mil or Klass Jan Huntleaar 13mil to replace Pav.

To be a top club nowadays we have to spend alot imo and we have been linked in last couple of weeks with some shit players and with the players i’ve mentioned above there is no doubt we will be challenging for the title.

    COYS! 🙂

BTW DONT SELL MODDERS, LENNON OR BALE SPURS IT WILL ONLY MAKE US WORSE!!

Nice to hear that VDV is staying at the lane.

    COYFS!!!!

  8. someone said sell giovani personally i think we should keep him he had a good world cup and been racings best player this season he just needs a chance and bale is great but 50 mill for him i would take that we could just sign someone like young or nzogbia not as good but quality players 50 million could improve our whole side

  9. Given, without a doubt. There’s no denying that Gomes is perhaps one of the best shot stoppers out there but as for reliability, I always get nervous when the ball is going to Gomes and Given is a class act in goal, and most importantly he is reliable just as all of the best goalkeepers are.l

  10. As a Belgian Spurs fan I can tell you that there are plenty of fine goalkeepers in my country: Thibaut Courtois at KRC Genk and (more experienced) Sinan Bolat at Standard are the best.

As for the strikers: why not buy some powerful strikers wit PL experience at “minor” clubs? E.g. Sturridge (ok Chelski), DJ Campbell, Cahill, Odemwingie,… Klose (free) can also be a good option. So we’re not risking one major transfer that doesn’t work out… And why not try Lukaku? He would play at Tottenham, at the other major PL clubs he wouldn’t…

We definitely need some more central defenders. Dawson and Gallas are the only reliable options. King (good defender) and Woodgate are way to injury prone. Why not Cahill from Bolton? Assou-Ekoto at left back is defensively not good enough.

But: first mission is to keep Bale, Modric, Sandro, Lennon and VDV.
