Do you want to see Bale play for Team GB?

Gareth Bale has often stated his desire to play in the GB Olympic Team in 2012 while the Welsh FA have repeatedly come out and urged him not to do so. While his country’s governing body is powerless to stop Bale competing, they have made their feelings known on the subject.

While there is nothing against the individual players, the associations of Wales and Scotland are concerned that the formation of a Team GB, could set a dangerous precedent for the future.

In England, the FA are expected to delay the start of the Premiership to accommodate the Olympics but we can soon expect a rush or managerial statements condemning the tournament as well.

As a Spurs supporter, do you feel that Gareth Bale should be allowed to do what he likes or is this a unique case where club really should come before extended country?

  1. Spurs have a great talent in Bale. He has pace, stamina and more technical skill than I think he is given credit for (often disparagingly referred to as a “kick and run” player) but he his humble and willing to learn.
With this in mind, and at only 21, he should be given chances like this to improve as a player, beyond this experience of the PL.

On a side note, his stats did fall off last season but after he become a media focus. I don’t think the attention got to his head, but it targeted him to other teams. From that point on he was consistently double-teamed or physically played out of the game. While he needs to (and should be able to) learn to compensate for this that extra attention on him opens space up on the field elsewhere for VdV, Modric and company to take advantage of.

  2. Bale is one of the best wingers in the world at his best if not the best. We saw what he did against Maicon who was supposed to be the best Right back in the world. But then he got injured and he came back and his form dipped. He is only 21 and is desperate to play football again so the GB squad is the perfect event. He should come back to us ready, fit and at the top of his game as we will we need him for the opening matches that include Everton and both Manchester clubs.

  3. I think that he is genuinely attracted by the serious opportunity of winning a trophy with a national team. I see that the welsh FA is concerned about their very own interests but i can’t understand why they should put this kind of psychological pressure on their players.
He’s young and talended and he would surely help the cause. Plus he plays for an english team and lives in England, as an english and a Tottenham fan i would be glad to see him play for our country as well during such an amazing showdown as the Olympics on our soil will be.
So yes, i definitely want to see Gareth with a GB jersey on!

  4. If Gareth wants to play, he should play. It will be a great experience for him and it’s not as if the Welsh f.a will drop him as he’s their best player. I’d hope the GB team would have a good chance of a medal too. Does anyone know how Bales ankle injury is doing??

  5. NO WAY BALE GETS HURT OFTEN ENOUGH AND IF HE GETS INJURED PLAYING FOR THE BRITISH TEAM ITS SPURS THAT ARE LEFT TO PICK UP THE GUY AND TRY TO GET HIM FIT AGAIN THE BRITISH TEAM WON`T GIVE A TOSS THEN WILL THEY .

  6. if he plays for Spurs then NO! its too close to the start of the season, and could potentially mean hes not available for the champs league qulifiers if we make it, i have supported spurs all my life and they come before England, let alone a GB team playing in a 1 off tournament! but if we have sold him to the likes of Madrid or barca by that time then i would be happy to see him play for GB!
