One aspect of the Luka Modric saga has been the number of unlikely names touted as his possible replacement. – Alberto Aquliani! Joe Cole!!

Without getting onto the subject of who is fit to lace who’s boots, most of the names don’t even play in Luka’s position and that goes for Juan Mata who was also named as the man who would come in and take Modric’s place.

Undaunted, the press have continued with the rumour and some are now saying that Spurs will continue to pursue the £20m rated Mata to show Luka our intent.

A decision on the future of the Valencia winger is expected very shortly although with Arsenal also reported to be interested, few Spurs fans are expecting any positive news from the Spanish international.

Overall this looks like a non-starter irrespective of what happens with Luka and at £20m for a man who has spent most of his time on the left wing may be another one for the ‘idle gossip’ pile.

  1. Mate, I make you right! Some of these numpty journos haven’t a clue about our great game, they just parrot fashion what they hear some pro saying, so as for knowing what player plays where? well………!!!

  2. If he really doesn’t want to stay, sell him to Chelski and ask Sturridge + (at least) 20 million to buy Scott Parker and a young talented attacking midfielder or an extra central defender.
