Could injuries prevent the sale of the deadwood?

by Matthew Harris on August 17, 2011

The news of Spurs sudden injury crisis in midfield may have wider implications than mere selection for tomorrow’s tie with Hearts.

Daniel Levy’s promised period of streamlining has been slow to say the least but after Robbie Keane left the club earlier this week, it had been hoped that more would follow.

However, speaking ahead of the tie at Tynecastle, Harry said: “Tom’s had a problem with his ankle since the back end of last season, Luka has a groin problem, he’s not fit. Jermain Jenas has an Achilles problem, Wilson Palacios won’t be fit for tomorrow and Sandro is out long-term. They are all central midfield players.”

While some commentators may see the name ‘Modric’ and look for more sinister reasons for his absence, the real worry for some Spurs fans will be the injuries to Palacios and JJ.

Wilson had been linked with a move to Stoke earlier this month and Jenas’ name has been mentioned in connection with a number of clubs.

Neither injury appears too serious but with 14 days left to go before the end of this transfer window, could this affect Spurs’ attempts to shift more of the deadwood from White Hart Lane?

Palacios and JJ shouldn’t be a problem for us. They should have been sold a while ago. Now, we may be stuck with them on our bench for another season. Super!

Do we have any kind of update on Sandro’s injury? I guess there is no way for us to know what “long-term” actually means. Is that 10 days, 2 months or half a season? All I have heard is long-term. In any case, less than an ideal way to get our season going.

I think Sandro is set to miss the first 2 months of the season. I expect Thud to start on Monday with Modric Vdv Bale Lennon.

yeh – sandro def out for about 2 months, injuries may prevent us but i think its more to do with the stupidly high prices we are demanding. we are pricing players out of moves. unfortunately we have to hope for a late flurry of activity and hope that there is truth in the rumours we here. I am hoping Bentley to Fulham,Hutton to Villa, and Wilson to Stoke, maybe Gio to Spain. touch wood and fingers crossed…. COYS

no sandro said he is ‘quick as Sheila’ in response to Harry’s claims he should speed up in training. Shes a better finisher than Darren Bent though :)
