While Spurs manager Harry Redknapp was pleased to see Spurs record their third consecutive win with victory over Wigan on Saturday, he was disappointed that we didn’t kill the game off sooner.

After two early strikes from Rafael van der Vaart and Gareth Bale saw us race into a 2-0 lead, Wigan came back into the match with a goal after half time and despite the home side going down to 10 men, Spurs couldn’t add to their tally and prevent a tense finish.

“It was complete domination in the first half, we could have been four up and controlled that half from start to finish,” Harry said after the game.

“Then we did exactly what I told them not to do at half-time, and that was get sloppy. We needed to keep the ball, pass the ball, but we gave a terrible goal away.

“It was a bad mistake, we tried to play our way out the box and you can’t always do that. Sometimes you’ve just got to clear your lines but we tried to be clever and gave a goal away and it gave them a lift.”

Spurs lost Jermain Defoe with illness prior to the match but Harry was happy to welcome other players back into the fold.

“Sandro came back today alongside Scott Parker and I liked that combination, it gave us some strength, so we’re looking strong,” he added.

“Rafa came in today. He’d been out with a hamstring but he did what he always does, scored a goal. He’s an amazing goalscorer.”

The win takes Tottenham to sixth in the table with nine points and a game in hand on all those above us. After hosting Shamrock Rovers in the Europa League on Thursday, it’s the big one this Sunday as Arsenal travel to the Lane.

  1. By comments made, its evident that the side is moulding itself into first half killers then fade away in the 2nd half. With this pattern of play we paid dearly last season by not qualifying for the CL. We cannot afford to choose this pattern of play as this points out to complacency. We must off this attitude immediately if we to get anywhere this season. No excuses as we have a squad to meet the requirements.

  2. Harry is optimistic about Sandro and Parker playing together, but I think Sandro and Parker should rotate and and not play together as a Parker and Modric combination will be much more threatening. Modric must play in the middle, either as a CAM or CM where he can create from a central position.
If we want to beat Arsenhole on Sunday we must not play to defensive midfielders.
    ………..Friedel
    Walker Kaboul King BAE
    R.VdV Parker Modric Bale
    …Adebayor Defoe

This team will win it 2-0

  3. Don’t think its that mate,Harry has a history of trying to shut up shop if we go into a lead 1,2 or 3 try and keep ball Parker,Sandro dropped off played in front of back 4 instead of like first half further up even down to 10men we didn’t push on ,we have class players we know that and vdv, modders, sandro and parker ran the game first half , they couldnt get near us ,don’t know harry could see , didn’t get off his fat arse hardly ,vdv with modders is terrific they bang balls as hard as u like an kill dead .Harry is banging on about parker because he bloody brought him well almost ,all the players he brought we are selling !!!! no one left to praise
    any why coys!!!!!!!!!

  4. Sandro and Parker can, and WILL play together to great effect. This was Sandro’s first proper game back, and did not play too well because of it. He will get better, and their pairing will improve too. We also have option of putting Modric in the “Vdv” role too – perhaps Chelsea away etc, where you would want Sandro AND Parker in midfield. Or perhaps vs City away, where Adebayor will not be playing….

  5. On Saturday we started great but fell away second half which is no surprise as BAE was ill, VDV and Sandro only half fit, Ade got injured on the hour, and the formation was last minute as Defoe was ill. A little disappointing but 3 points.
Regarding formation and team selection it is going to be a long season full of injuries and fatigue from playing in the Premier League and the million game Europa plus the FA Cup and we have lots of players who can come in and we can make different formations too.
So in short we don’t have a best team (although anyone wanting to play Pav or Gio in place of Adebayor in the EPL wants their head checking). Parker + Sandro will definitely work in some games and sometimes Defoe and VDV will rotate for example.
But for this weekend at home to the goons I think the 442 that worked against Wolves/Liverpool is the one to go for. The arse will not be able to cope with that team.
