Team selection for Sunday’s match at Newcastle could go right to the eleventh hour with several key players remaining a doubt for the game.
The biggest question is over Emmanuel Adebayor who is rated 50/50 at best following the hamstring strain that he picked up in the win over Arsenal. Meanwhile, Sandro, Aaron Lennon and Vedran Corluka are all doubtful for the game but Rafael van der Vaart is expected to be fit after another hamstring scare.
The back five should pick itself again with Walker, Kaboul, King and BAE in front of Friedel in goal. The question marks start in midfield however and while Bale, Modric and Parker will fill three of the slots, it’s anyone’s guess at the moment who will play on the right. Contenders include Lennon and possibly VDV if Adebayor is fit but if injuries fail to heal, Livermore or Gio dos Santos could come into the picture. Sandro is another doubt with a calf injury.
Up front it will be Ade and Defoe if the giant Togolese is fit, otherwise it should be VDV behind JD, in preference to Pav stepping in to form a 4-4-2.
Here’s our team to face Newcastle (presuming Adebayor is injured, as reported). What’s yours?
