Does Gomes really have a ‘big future’ at Spurs?

by Matthew Harris on October 21, 2011

While Roman Pavlyuchenko sealed the win for Spurs last night, the frustrating enigma that is Heurelho Gomes showed the best side to his game with some reaction saves that kept his side ahead.

The Brazilian may have been a surprise choice in goal and after saying for much of the season that he can leave in January, Harry Redknapp hinted after the match that Gomes may still have a future at Spurs.

“He still has a big future here,” Redknapp said.

“I would like to think he still has a great future here at Tottenham but he wants to play obviously and at the moment he is disappointed that Brad has come in and he is in the team, but Gomes is top class when he is on his game. He is a great goalkeeper.

“I was pleased for him.”

So did Heurelho Gomes show last night that he can beat the odds and reclaim the number one jersey at the Lane?

sell him whilst he still commands a respectable fee, some mugs will pay £5m for him. He is too shakey and scares the crap out of his defence. He had his chance. sell and buy Shay Given

Yes, he made a couple of good saves, but he also had two or three of his usual flaps at the ball which could have ended in disaster if we were playing a half decent team. Fortunately Rubin were’t that good up front
