One of our opponents from last season’s Champions League is the latest to be linked with the job of replacing Brad Friedel as Tottenham’s long term number one.

According to the Daily Mirror, Spurs are monitoring the progress of FC Twente’s Bulgarian international stopper Nikolay Mihaylov with a view to a move in January, or at the end of the current English season.

Mihaylov joined Liverpool from Levski Sofia in 2007 but after the deal hit a work permit problem, he was loaned out to Twente who made his transfer permanent in 2010. Since then he has become their first choice keeper and has now made 15 appearances for the full Bulgarian side.

Mihaylov is 23 now and until last season, his transfer issues had left him with very little league experience. He looks a good prospect but unlike some of the other keepers mentioned, may not quite be ready to take over the number one jersey at the Lane.
