Our current defensive pairing have been talking about our aims for this season and while Younes Kaboul is gearing up for a tilt at the top four, Sebastien Bassong admits it will be tougher than ever to get back into the Champions League.

Speaking on Talksport, Kaboul said: “We’re doing quite well this season and for us our target, most importantly, is to get back into the Champions League next season.

“That’s why we’re trying to improve every weekend, trying to win every game, to get back there next season.”

Meanwhile, speaking on the same station, Bassong concedes it will be a hard task, given the number of teams challenging for a top four slot.

“The league is getting crazier and crazier,” said Seb. We can’t even pick who is going to be in the top four or who is going to get relegated.

“It is really interesting and there will be a lot of teams involved in the title race. There are six or seven teams battling for a spot in the top four.”

Unless Harry springs a surprise and brings William Gallas into the starting line up, both Kaboul and Bassong will continue at the heart of the defence on Sunday and it’s clear that both men are targeting that top four finish at the end of the campaign.

  1. Now that our injury crisis seems to be getting to grips & the rotation policy is strictly applied, I cannot see us fail making top 4. In addition, we have a very resourceful youth back up who have proven their capability in the first team.
