When Tom Huddlestone first began to experience injury problems around 12 months ago, he was first choice at the Lane for defensive midfield duties. However, as he continues the rehabilitation from his latest setback, he suddenly faces a battle to take the field when he finally regains fitness.
A year ago, Sandro had looked a tentative, lightweight addition to the squad but we all know how he turned it around in the New Year to become one of our players of the season.
In addition, Scott Parker has arrived and has emerged to become one of the first, if not the first name on the team sheet as far as premier league duties are concerned.
Perhaps it’s no surprise then to see rumours emerging of a possible transfer and the stories today suggest that Liverpool could be planning a January approach for the player. The story first appeared in The Daily Mirror and it could of course be lazy journalism but it’s clear that Thudd faces a battle to regain his slot.
Spurs will be reluctant sellers and but if Tom’s opportunities are limited, maybe he could think of a future away from the Lane.

If they offer us 20 million I’d accept it, he’s got a great passing ability on him but he does lack pace which is a problem for us.
He would only get in the team if Modric got injured now anyway and with some great youngsters coming through it would be a good bit of business for a player that cost us 2.5 million.

Interested in us building a squad capable of ultimately challenging for the title.
Thudd, Pienaar and other squad players should only be let go if we have someone in the pipeline with their qualities, but even better.
We don’t want to sell all these players in Jan and be left with the bare bones come the crucial run in.

Does Liverpool need more CMs? I thought they already had so money they were trying to offload some.
As to Hudd, when fit he’s definitely good enough. We should have backup for every position. If the starting mids are Modric and Parker, then we have Sandro and Hudd behind them. The question is if we think Livermore is good enough to replace Hudd.
We do need a couple of other positions, though, and I’d be open to using him in a trade (plus cash) to get a top: forward, RM, or CB.
That said, proper squad rotation and competition for spots (say #1 current choice plays 2 out of 3 games) should leave room for 4 CMs.
If Hudd is still an injury doubt in January make no change, but if he’s back and fighting for a place I’d look to loan out Livermore.

Dream on Liverpool..Why they need another midfielder I don’t know, but if they already lack pace, Huddlestone will make them even slower and it will be a bit like when we had Poyet and Anderton in midfield..
I’m not a massive Huddlestone fan, he is a good squad option, but had too many limitations, despite his great passing and shooting ability. He would work well in a 5 man midfield, alongside Sandro and Parker, but that will never happen.
He would work alongside either Sandro or Parker with either Modric or VdV as the attacking mid. Honestly, that’s not SO different than how we play now. VdV would be a little more withdrawn to link between the mids and Adebayor. Modric could do the same (probably a little better than VdV, actually).
Tom is the best passer of the ball in the league bar none. When fit he will get games no doubt about that. Harry knows his qualities. The last thing Spurs need to do is give Liverpool a replacement for Alonso.
I’d be willing to sell him if he was healthy. Of all of our squad players, he has the most value. With modric, parker and sandro ahead of him and livermore showing signs of being a legitimate prospect, huddlestone is somewhat expendable. My only issue would be that depth will be key if spurs get back to the champs league, and thudd is good enough to start for most teams in the prem. If modric or parker get injured for an extended period of time, thudd has the skill set to step in for either one and perform admirably. I’d still sell him for the right price tho because cm is our position of strength and the 15-20 mill he would command could bring in a solid striker.
Make Lpool overpay for his services or keep him at the Lane as quality depth ……..
