It’s been widely anticipated that there would be some departures from White Hart Lane in the January transfer window but the name of Vedran Corluka hasn’t always appeared on the lists.

Charlie had lost his place to Kyle Walker at the start of the season but injuries had also restricted his appearances. Corluka provides useful cover in more than one position but it seems that he is keen to move on for the chance of regular first team football.

‘Redknapp chose Walker and doesn’t see me in the defence, so it is logical to sit round the table and agree an amicable farewell. I will talk to people in the next few days,’ the player said.

‘I don’t have the will again to wait months for a chance, to fight for a position when I see that the coach has other ideas.’

Harry Redknapp won’t want to lose such a versatile player but with Euro 2012 looming, Corluka is just one of a clutch of players across Europe looking for first team football in an attempt to secure their place on their respective country’s plane.

  1. I’m not so sure Corluka will find it easy to leave. If we sold him he’d need to be replaced, because we’d only have Kaboul as cover for Walker then. I think he should play in the Europa League match tomorrow night and the last game at Shamrock too – he would have played in that competition more were it not for injuries.

Harry (or Levy) won’t let him leave on the cheap because like I said, he would need a replacement and with Naughton out on loan there’s not many options.

If Bassong leaves (fingers crossed) there’s also the issue of centre-back cover. King’s run won’t go on all season so we’re gonna be without him at some point so we’ll be short there as well. I reckon he’ll stay for the season.

  2. although his pace is not what it was Gallas plays well at RB as Jose used him for the chavs. I agree that i dont think Charlie will be allowed to leave unless we have adequate cover although it isnt impossible. I am sure Gallas and King at CB would be just as strong with Kaboul at RB. I wouldnt like to see Walker out though so would only play this way if Walker was injured. Corluka is versatile but can be too calm on the ball at times and this is his weakness with the lack of pace. Still a good player though and would fetch a decent price in the market, 7-9m
