If by any chance, Spurs fans held any hope of seeing Didier Drogba in a Lilywhite shirt anytime soon, that optimism has been dashed by his agent’s claims that he is seeking as big a pay cheque as possible to end his career.
In truth, this one never seemed likely but at least now the rumour can be put to bed once and for all,
“Once you are well into your thirties, you have to go to a club where you can be certain you’ll be able to pay your bills,” said Thierno Seydi.
“He will go where he is offered the most money. It could be the United States, Qatar, Russia or somewhere in Asia. He’ll go wherever he feels good from a financial point of view,”
Just how big Drogba’s ‘bills’ are to go chasing the type of money that clubs such as Anzi Makhachkala can offer is unclear but at least it ends the Spurs link.
Replacing the rumour however are stories suggesting that Nicolas Anelka could be heading to the Lane and these have been fuelled by Harry Redknapp’s recent comments.
“I have always liked him,” Redknapp said. “I think he is a fantastic goal scorer but he is not a player who I have made any enquiries about or mentioned to the chairman.
“Having said that, I wouldn’t stand here and say, ‘No. Never’, because if I did sign him you would say, ‘What a lying git’. It’s not a bad shout. He’s a good player.”
Is Anelka at Spurs a good shout or should we file this one away along with the Drogba rumours?

ya get me nuff said brrrrrrap!!
Anelka would be a good call. The big, strong striker up front is working fantastically with Ade and it’s what the squad needs (sorry Jermain).
He is getting on a bit though. I like Yakubu, I think he’d look better in a stronger squad and would fill the same role very well.
What’s with the ‘brrrrap’? I haven’t come across that one before…
Even if the money was right I’d rather not have Drogba. We need a long-term solution not another near-retirement.
We have Coulibaly — who looks great for the future — but won’t be ready for the 1st team for a couple of years. Also, at 5’7 we could use a second more… imposing forward.
Damiao still seems worth it even if we have to pay over-the-top for him. Better spend the money on someone who can produce than 1/2 as much on someone who doesn’t add anything to what we already have (not another Pav, please).
