New deals struck as Spurs look to the future

by Matthew Harris on December 12, 2011

The club announced over the weekend that reserve players Jake Livermore and Tom Carroll had both signed new contracts that would keep them at White Hart Lane until 2016.

Both have featured heavily in our Europa League campaign although it may have been a surprise to note on the club announcement that Jake had featured in 18 out of 21 games this season.

While players such as Kyle Naughton and Steven Caulker have spent time on loan, Livermore has taken the opportunity to try and establish himself in the squad. Meanwhile, Tom Carroll needs more time to develop but his performances in Europe have hinted at a decent future.

If, as expected, Spurs bow out of Europe this week, it could mean that both players will be looking at loan spells in the New Year. As for the new contracts, it’s a positive move for the club but does either player have a big future at White Hart Lane?

Chris Hoy – you’re a cunt
ooops, sorry wrong Thread, Wrong bloke.
I can’t see Livermore getting in ahead of Parker or Sandro. Carroll could be a good one for the future but will need some prem experience at a mid to lower table club.
On another note good to see Steven Caulker back playing for Swansea and keeping clean sheets too

Funny and embarrassing to hear about Spurs fans abusing our gold medal winning cyclist. Reminds me of those welsh numbnuts who targeted a pediatrician who they thought were abusing kids.
Anyway, Livermore is no more than a squad player at best. Do you really want him in the team in future? We should be aiming higher (sad but true).
Carroll, on the other hand, has glimmers of real class and I look forward to him developing (and bulking up) in the next year or two.

sure, the officiating was extremely poor. Stoke is rough but maybe the ref was waiting for a defender to pull out a gun ans shoot before he would give a penalty. check out the tactical analysis of the game on http://www.theirtactics.com

Livermore might not ever be better than Sandro/Parker but we need backups and we’re not in a position to have a second first team (City) sitting on the bench.
Getting backup players like Livermore — who is at least competent if not spectacular — allows us to put money in a few key positions. That’s how it should be. Star starting players and young players as they’re backups who can learn from the starters and grow into that role themselves over time.
I’d rather speculate on several young players with potential than one overly expensive player to sit on the bench and draw a fair percentage of the total wage fee.
