Three points is all that matters

by Matthew Harris on December 19, 2011

After a disappointing week the only thing that really counted yesterday was a win. The absence of Bale and the early departure of Aaron Lennon took away much of our flowing football and potent threat and while Sunderland offered little in the way of goal scoring chances, the 1-0 victory wasn’t one of our best.

It was a victory nevertheless and manager Harry Redknapp was delighted with the points.

“It was a tough game and we all knew it would be,” said Harry.

“We had a couple of setbacks before the game. We lost Gareth Bale with a sprained ankle then we lost Aaron Lennon early in the game when it looked like he was in good form, he had a couple of early runs, but then he tore a hamstring.

“So we had to shuffle things around and it was a really satisfying performance.”

After Roman Pavlyuchenko’s goal went in, Harry felt we came alive and should have increased the winning margin,

“We stuck at it and once we scored, we really started to play. We pushed on and made some good chances. We played as we can play.”

After Chelsea dropped two points against Wigan, the win puts Spurs back into third place ahead of our clash with the men from Stamford Bridge this Thursday.

Great Great win yesterday an absolute must win and puts a nice distance between ourselves and Arsenal who will fight us all the way for Fourth and have a much easier second half to the season than us with nearly all the top of the table matches for them at home we are now 5 points clear with a game in hand at home so i would say a probable win as we are so formidable at home. 8 points and a superior goal difference. We need to get a result against Chelsea a draw would do ( a win nicer of course ) I would like Andros Townsend to at least be on the bench for the next couple of games and with his pace and energy could do real damage in the absence of either Bale or Lennon. I think we desperately need a front man who can also play wide Padolski would be ideal Tevez also but can’t see hapening. COYS
