Mixed news from the injury front

by Matthew Harris on December 20, 2011

It’s a mixed bag of news this morning with regards to the three players who suffered injuries over the weekend as they battle to be fit for the Chelsea game on Thursday.

Speaking on Talksport, assistant manager Kevin Bond insisted that neither Bale nor Defoe would be risked if they weren’t fully fit while it seems that Aaron Lennon can definitely be ruled out after suffering his hamstring tear.

“It’s difficult to see how Aaron Lennon, who came off with a hamstring injury, could be fit in four days. With Gareth Bale we’ll have to see how it is but it’s a sprained ankle or something like that and Jermain Defoe has done his hamstring also,” Bond said.

“We’ll have a good go with all of them and see where we are but as important as it is we wouldn’t want to play them in one game and then risk losing them for half a dozen matches. We need to take a look at the bigger picture.”

However there is better news, depending on your view of the player, with the suggestion that Michael Dawson could be ready to return to action early in the New Year.

“Michael could be back in early January,” said Harry Redknapp.

“He’s getting there, he’s back outside running now and he is coming on well.”

The report goes on to suggest that Dawson’s return could spell the end of Spurs’ interest in Gary Cahill while others would suggest that defensive reinforcements are our main priority next month.

It’s mixed news because it’s good news that Dawson could be back earlier than first thought. What is the point in risking Defoe and Bale if they pull up and mix the rest of the Xmas fixtures and cost points. Kranky can slot on one wing and we still have more than enough firepower to see of Chelsea, plus Scotty-too-hotty will have a point to prove. Odds on him scoring a screamer?

If bale et al play the full game we have more than enough to beat Chelsea. Even without them we can win. But If they start and get long term injuries. Our season could be over

Might force playing both sandro and parker again, which might be a good thing. Against the better teams I worry that we don’t have enough ball winning capability

Defoe was piss off with Harry playing impotent Van who has fired blanks since the QPR game. Bale has sprained his ankle practising his dance with ADY for when he scores the winner against Chelsea. And the road runner has pulled his hammy caused by his new Nike boots and he will be back very soooooon vrrrrrrrrrooooom. Townsend should be on the bench to help slow Sturridge down.

Its a MUST win against Chelsea…period! Whoever starts like what Scott Parker said, MUST start the game with fire in the belly!! Anyway, my preferred starting line-up will be:

Friedel
Kaboul Gallas King BAE
Walker Parker Modric Niko
VDV
Ade

Subs : Cudicini, Defoe, Bale, Bassong, Sandro, Rose, & Pav.

Reason why Bale not starting, he will not be 100% match fit. If he does, he’ll be on painkilling shots and I’d rather not risk him. Worse case, I’ll put him in in the last 30 (Ivanovic must have ran out of steam by then), lower risk for Bale.

COYS!!

aqaljuta thats exactly what I have been saying Walker out wide and Kaboul at Centre back that way we are stronger in defence from set plays and we keep some speed.

Sunderland was a drab game and it was because everyone was coming infield which makes it easy to defend against
