1-1 – A fair result?

by Matthew Harris on December 23, 2011

After last night’s hectic London Derby ended with honours even, Spurs manager Harry Redknapp reflected on the game and felt that a draw was probably the right result.

After Daniel Sturridge cancelled out Emmanuel Adebayor’s opener, both sides had great chances to win the match with Ade going so close in second half injury time.

“We started superbly and were on top for the first 25 minutes, got the goal and we were great early on,” said Harry.

“They equalised, came back and looked stronger.

“There were chances at both ends. Ramires had a free header for them, Adebayor could have scored at the end but somehow it didn’t go in. A draw was a fair result.”

Harry also claimed that the injury sustained to Rafael van der Vaart at half time contributed to a loss of momentum.

“In the second half we had a problem. Rafa had a hamstring problem again and we had to change the system,” Harry added.

“It was difficult. Luka played on the right, Pav came on and we went with two strikers. I thought ‘we’re at home, let’s have a go’ but they then had control of the middle of the park because they had an extra man in there.”

The draw leaves Spurs in third place and after the Christmas break, it’s Norwich away on Tuesday in another televised game.

We were lucky to get a point after surrendering the midfield after tactical half time incompetence.

It shows how far we’ve come that i’m disappointed with a home draw with Cheatski. Still not convinced that Pav was the answer as VDV replacement. When you play against proper teams (like the Arse) you really cant get away with being light in midfield. Pienaar, for me would have given us the necessary graft off the right hand side. Yet gotta take our situation, not bad at all! Terry: my most unfavourite person in the world right now. Wonder what the odds are on him and Redknapp being guests at HMP services in the new year.

Have people conveniently forgotten that Benny handled in the box, and that Adebayor, although not offside, scored with his arm?

We were far from unlucky. I think it was just about even, but a point does neither side any favours as far as the title is concerned. In fact with increasing injuries, I’d be more concerned about staying in the top four than challenging. The scum are not that far behind!

“but they then had control of the middle of the park because they had an extra man in there.”

Of course we lost control of the middle of the park, mainly because we took our best CM and stuck him out wide!!

“that Adebayor, although not offside, scored with his arm?”

No he didn’t. You are clearly a Chelsea or Arsenal fan

I’ve been watching Spurs for 35 years.
Why am I ‘clearly’ a gooner? He hit the ball with the top of his arm, it’s a fact. No need to start calling people gay gooners, child.

I’ve got to agree with JimmyD here. We were lucky. However, they were too. And i must criticize Webb here, being United’s best player and all…

Draw was a fair result

Getting very worried now about the ammount of injuries were picking up. Harry must not go 442 against any of the top sides. We must try and keep our shape and putting Modric wide is just crazy

I would prefer we try Townsend and keep our shape than put in a midfield player

why oh why harry do you play modric wide??when vdv came off just put luka further forward and put another midfielder on to play wide.done a great job so far harry but these decisions are costing us.

Of course you weren’t lucky to get a draw. You richly deserved to win the game and take a precious three points. Adebayor should never ever ever be flagged for off-side and if he should happen to use his hand or arm to put the ball in the net, well so what, he is such a great and talented player and such a wonderful human being that little things like that can be overlooked. I don’t subscribe, for one minute, to the idea that he is a cheating, money grabbing mercenary, no no of course not.

Such a shame about the lovely Rafa’s hamstring, the poor, brave little soldier tweaked it and couldn’t carry on, I hope he has a lovely Christmas in his pikey caravan.

Stage instruction… exit stage left Modric (a small Croat with deep pockets, lots of room for nasty Russian tycoon’s roubles).

Such a pity that your wonderful squad is starting to fall apart at the seams, no doubt Old ‘Arry will be out wheeling and dealing in January, at least until he is banged up.

Live the dream you Spurs fans. After all it is only a dream, Remind me, when did you last win the Premiership, Oh That’s right NEVER!, so how about the old first division? I bet most of you weren’t even born.

Goes of laughing …Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha…….

Lmao. You, you dumb cunt, are a bitter little rag head. Cant wait for someone to smash Rvp down and injury the cunt now that would be a joyous moment. Arsenal the one man team supported by asylum seekers and wiggas, and men with sms eg. Jack Wilshere.
You better get back to the mosque you dirty fag.

By resorting to foul mouthed, racist and religious abuse you lose all credibility. You merely expose your lack of intelligence and ability to argue your case in a reasoned way.

Your wish that someone would injure a player shows your total lack of respect for your fellow human beings as well as a predilection for gratuitous violence. Do, please, try to get counselling in order to help overcome your mental health issues.

It is a sad reflection of the failings of the educational system that you have such a limited ability to communicate your thoughts, even though you appear at least to be computer literate.

haven’t u got anything better to do. bitterness at being behind us in the league i think….
or the fact that u are being carried by one man who is not even going to be a gooner for much longer
and not if but when that little shit gets injured this slight period of form will evaporate and u will be beaten by teams like blackburn again…good one
deep down we all know you are excreting your little gooner pants at the knowledge that the tables have turned, you won’t finish in cl this year, rvp will follow fabregas and nasri….whilst we make you look pathetic on the pitch. your days are numbered gooners
hahahahahahahaha

Draw was fortunate we looked so bad on defense. Of course Modric was in the wrong spot (fail, Harry) and no one found him (though they should all be looking for him), and, Sunderland notwithstanding, Pav is not a difference-maker but mostly a hider and a step too slow against the cream of the league. Ade chose the second half to display miserable first touch, giving away 7 or 8 balls, but at least he looked like himself most of the time. Eko threw away several more, Sandro is not ready for prime time as he barely keeps out of serious trouble. Walker dimply made bad decisions, not taking men on near the box when he should have and telegraphing his dribbling when he did go. Even King made an error in being a step behind Chelsea’s top scoring threat (and in form, so everyone should know he has an obvious target on his back) on the goal. Bale delivered early but then looked like a rookie in two shots that could have taken the points. VDV is an obvious miss when he isn’t in.
This would have been a great example of winning even when we weren’t playing well, except that we didn’t pull it off.
So, a draw is all one could hope for with all the poor play, and unfortunately, the hint is in the air that we are not ready yet to contend with the also-rans, let alone the Manchester boys.
Harry – please look closely at the one-footed play of Man City’s best. With the exception of Aguerro, they seem to only be dangerous heading to the good side; much less is accomplished by their stars when forced to their weak side.
