VDV’s absence offers others a chance to shine

by Matthew Harris on December 23, 2011

Rafael van der Vaart’s brittle hamstrings let him down again last night as the Dutchman was forced off at half time in Spurs’ encounter with Chelsea.

VDV enjoyed a good run in the side at the start of Tottenham’s climb up the table but this latest setback leaves Harry Redknapp with a selection headache as the club heads into the festive season.

“I’d think he would be out for the festive period,” Redknapp said after the game. “He seems to suffer from hamstring problems a lot and he’s got another one.

“He is a great player but we need him fit and at present we can’t keep him on the pitch.”

With Jermain Defoe also struggling with hamstring problems of his own, Harry is down to Ade and Pav as the only fit senior strikers in the club.

Team and squad selection for the forthcoming games could therefore be interesting with Harry Kane and possibly even Souleymane Coulibaly hitting the bench.

I think it gives the chance for Nico, Danny and maybe Andros to get a run in the team.
We need somebody to give the team balance by playing wide right, so all these are left footed so Harry has a dilema.
Could solve the problem by playing 3 at the back.
Gallas, King, Bassong and play BEA and Walker as wing backs.
Keep Parker and Sandro as holding midfield. Modric to play at the top of the three with Ade plus one up front. Defoe or Pav depending on fitness.

COYS!!!!!!

There are also Falque and Cristian Cebellos.

I think Kranjar will do a job out there. Not prefect wide right, but with Modric inside, he shouldnt need to drift in so much and he will still have Walker overlapping for the width on the right.

Exactly my thoughts! Niko deserves playing time.

Kranjar’s delivery on his right foot should be good too.

& he’s more of a goal threat than either Modric or Lennon.

What the fuck was Harry thinking bringing on Pav? Deary me the bloke is useless.
Kranjcar in for Vdv and anyone but Pav in for Lennon.

Much as he has done nothing Pienaar might be better on the right than Krancjar.

Kane, Cebellos, Townsend, Falque etc are not good enough to be playing Premier League football in a top 3 team.

Just play kyle in place of Lennon, and Kaboul rt back, that would would off helped us against Chelsea.
Kyle is more than capable in an attacking role, as well as helping Kaboul at the back, also the 2 of them would have kept Ashley cole quiet. Harry must be more brave in dropping key players for the good of the team, but in the case against Chelsea, no one would have been dropped, VDV would have played just behind Ade, and Modders pulling the strings from midfield.

prefer the second line up look how bale has shined coming from LB to LM why not give walker the same opportunity he has the attacking ability that is needed for RM as modric is wasted playing down the wing he is a central attacker and that is where he thrives being able to feed the wingers and forwards. Levy and Harry should be looking at wingers such as jesus navas, santi corzola, pablo hernandez or junior holiet
