Four Bundesliga players for Harry to consider

by Matthew Harris on December 30, 2011

Striker links with Spurs are set to increase over the next few days as it seems increasingly likely that Roman Pavlyuchenko will be on a Rocket to Russia next month.

With Adebayor’s future far from settled, this seems like a sensible time to get involved in the transfer market and at present, there are a number of German based strikers being linked with Premiership clubs.

So could Harry be Bundesliga bound next month in order to look at any of the following?

  1. Papiss Cisse

When rumours first appeared in the summer linking Cisse with the Premier League, they seemed optimistic to say the least. The 26 year old had enjoyed a modest career in France and Germany but now seems to have blossomed since joining SC Freiburg where he averages over a goal every other game.

Cisse will be away on African Nations Cup duty with Senegal next month but could be a useful option when he returns.

  1. Lukas Podolski

The same age as Cisse, (in fact, Podolski was born just one day later), but far more experienced, Lukas Podolski could bring the clinical edge that Harry needs to secure a top four place.

With 95 caps for his country and 43 goals, Podolski has the credentials that the club needs but can he repeat his prolific feats outside of Germany?

  1. Mario Gotze

An interesting one this and a player that has been linked with another North London team in the past. Gotze is only 19 and seems to be some way from the finished article.

He does however have immense potential and that is underlined by the fact that he already has 12 international caps for Germany. Strictly speaking Gotze is an attacking midfielder but he can also play on the wing and he may be happy to wait at White Hart Lane for his chance.

However, no review would be complete without…

  1. Klaas-Jan Huntelaar

You almost wish Harry would sign this bloke just to end the transfer rumours and at 28, he remains a decent option.

After barren spells in Madrid and Milan, the Hunter is back to his best with Schalke but it’s probably now or never as far as a Premiership move is concerned.

Haha… Gotze is wanted by Real, Barca, Man U, Man City, Arsenal, Bayern, Inter, Juve, PSG…
He’s regardes as one of the brightest prospects in the world, tooted as the German Messi… and you think “he may be happy to wait at White Hart Lane for his chance” ???
I’m a Spurs fan, and I would LOVE to have him, but damn, be realistic….

Greavsy it it “touted” not “tooted”. Also it is Marin that is supposedly the German Messi, not Goetze. Shouldn’t we be looking at Marin to play wide right? I know he plays off the left for Werder. I would be wary of Hunterlaar, he didn’t make the grade at RM or Milan, and never seems to start for his national side.

For someone a bit picky David Huntelaar has started 6 games for Holland this season and Marin has struggled quite a bit this season.
Whilst you are correct in that Marin was given the German Messi moniker a couple of seasons back when he was showing some good skills it’s fair to say of the two Goetze is the one far more deserving on current form
It’s very true that he has a huge number of admirers so unlikely a realistic target for us. Huntelaar on the other hand I feel would be a great addition

Marin was the German Messi 2 seasons ago, now he is struggling. Giovani was the new Ronaldinho ages ago (it seems). What you need is a solid player, not a hyped one
(Götze though is really great, no Messi but another Özil).
Podolski did not make a good impression at Bayern München. So he returned to Cologne, where he is good at times but not consistent.
Hoilett or Albrighton could take the second spot on the right wing. Farfan could be the number one, if you want to give up on Lennon and spend a bit more. I don’t see any of these transfers realistic in January.
