Our team to face West Brom – what’s yours?

by Matthew Harris on January 3, 2012

There are injury concerns over Scott Parker ahead of tonight’s match with the Baggies but our midfield general is just one of a host of players that Harry may take a chance on this evening. It’s thought that both Ledley King and Aaron Lennon are in with a chance of returning to the side tonight as Harry looks to put a bit of impetus back into Spurs’ league campaign.

As usual, the goalkeeper and full backs should pick themselves so that just leaves the issue of whether Ledley will come in for either Kaboul or Gallas.

Ahead of them there are more questions and if both Lennon and Parker are fit, Harry will face a tough decision as to whether Sandro misses out. The Brazilian has been back to his best since returning to the side but could miss out if Redknapp prefers the attacking option of Lennon.

Up front, it’s hard to see past VDV and Ade even if Defoe and Pav have recovered from their respective niggles.

Here’s our team to face West Brom, what’s yours?

I feel if we need to play wingbacks then Pienaar should play with Sandro in the middle(resting parker) however for this game the 4-4-2 system should work fine.Go with the above on this.

I would play Dawson and Kaboul, rest Ledley until the City game, Gallas plays at Cheltenham with Bassong and then all will be fit for the Everton and City games.

Tonight I would play Krancjar on the right but I have a feeling Harry will go with Livermore

Agree with your formation Matt, banking on this 1st XI to score early & enough to allow decent action to Niko , JD, and maybe Daws to replace VDV/Lennon, Ade, & King

Right now the untouchables are Brad, the fullbacks, and the youngsters Sandro & Bale, latter two whose youth & athleticism need no rest

Rotating finely will keep everyone on their toes, avoid anyone getting too comfy, including Ade who needs to be sharper at taking goal chances

4-3-3 with Frdl, Ekotto, Kaboul, Gallas, Walker, Modric, Sandro, Livermore, Kranjcar and Bale roaming behind Ade.
Defoe, VDV, Parker on the bench to change it up if needed.
Parker’s 1 yellow away from a one match ban so we could bring him on with about 10 minutes to go to sort that problem and miss the FA cup game.

I would rest some players and wouldn’t risk Lennon and Parker with the games coming up so I would go for:

Friedel
Walker — Gallas—- Kaboul —– BAE
Pienaar — Sandro—- Modric — Bale
Defoe —– Adebayor

Friedel. Kaboul-King-Gallas. Walker-VDV-Sandro-Modric-Bale. Ade-Defoe. That should be our team. 3-5-2. Bale and Walker as wingers. Sandro as DM and modric/vdv slightly more advanced with defoe and ade up top.

These options (above) confirm the overall strength and balance within the squad.

Nice 1 HR – it took a while to get there but when you add it to the sequencing of games this season, it looks like a well thought out plan on its way to successful implementation.

Planning is a bit like the internet to managers of a certain age, – HR would claim to not know a thing about it but he is the master of self depracation, amongst other skills.

I would start off with Adebayor and Defoe as strikers and play VDV in midfield. Since this is a game we have to win to make amends for our recent draw and have a good lead over our closest rivals, I would ensure we have a strong defence and so would play King at the back. I find that our defence is always shaky without him.
