While Loic Remy may not be available until the end of the season, if you believe PSG’s new manager Carlo Ancelotti, there are a number of options this month in the striking department for Spurs to consider.

Big spending PSG attract a lot of attention at the moment and when quizzed about possible targets, Ancelotti gave reporters a list of names that are supposedly being touted around clubs by their agents.

‘There is a lot of choice for this January market. Do you want the names,” he said.

‘OK, now I tell you the players the agents are offering on the market, officially or not: Carlos Tevez, Fernando Torres, Dimitar Berbatov, Roman Pavlyuchenko, Edinson Cavani, Fernando Llorente.

Of course, some of these names may be mentioned in the way that Jermain Defoe’s has by his new agent and they may not be for sale at present. Others such as Tevez however, are clearly up for grabs.

So, Pav aside, is there anyone from that list that Harry should be pursuing or is his best option to sit tight and wait for Loic Remy in the summer?

  1. We should have signed Llorente in the Summer. Big and skillful,he can play as a lone striker but would also compliment JD in a 4-4-2.

  2. Yeah, I like the look of that nippy little England player, he’s already scored 11 goals so far this season and would make an idea strikel partner for Ade up front…oh, he ours already?, blow me I just saved the club 20 mill…!

        • …well Ade has a marginally better goals per game ratio than Defoe….but Defoe has been a sub half the time… However when you add Ade’s 6 assists compared to Defoe’s 1, then there is no comparison…

          • Tony, I would prefer Ade and Defoe as a pairing, not one or the other. The problem is VDV, who for some undisclosed reason seems to take all the corners, free kicks and slows the play more often than not. It’s no coincidence that the best we’ve played this term was against Liverpool and we were without Rafa from the start of that game. Defoe’s been unlucky this season, as it’s clearly evident in his play, that he’s sharper and play’s far deeper than in previous season’s. It’s a little annoying when his dissenters keep harping on about getting caught offside, when he’s playing far deeper and not on the defenders shoulder-I’ve not even checked the stats-but I’ll wager in minutes played he’s not been caught out anywhere near as much as Ade has so far-not a row, but a cyber chat over a cyber pint at the cyber bar.

    • dude, i totally agree with ya! Defoe all the way, been so unlucky this season with Ade being here but i dont reckon he’ll stay because of money, so if we had Defoe and Llorente that would be good!

  3. Cavani, would be solid, complete all round striker and can absolutely lead the line in my opinion, I would take Torres if he was cheap because I genuinely believe Harry could sort him out no problem,,

  4. had a quick look, cavani relishes playing on his own up front . jd cant do that job,we must bring in cover for ade. f*ck knows what we’re gonna do on sunday!

  5. Although said before, Llorente is a stud and would absolutely fit into this line-up like a glove. Not only does he provide solid linking play where needed, but he’s a true ‘target striker’ that can absolutely kill you with his feet and smash you in the air.

    Buy him now ‘Arry!!!

  6. Torres! Llorente is great, and Tevez as well, but I honestly think Torres would come good at Spurs – He relishes a fast game which is why he’s struggling at Chelsea, but he’d slot right in with us.

Who’d want Berba back? No chance – he burned his bridges with the fans after he decided he wanted to play at ManU and literally stopped playing when on the pitch for Spurs. Remember how he’d just stroll about and do that ‘crossing-the-road-fast-walk’ rather than running for the ball? Then complain it wasn’t passed to his sluggish feet? Sulky tw*t.

    • Ade…and currently even Defoe are out scoring Berbatov’s 2 seasons at Spurs – who are both getting 1 in 2. Berba got less than 1 in 2, and benefited from having an in-form Keane alongside him.

  7. essexian76……you hit the preverbial nail right on the bonce…well done that man. And has anyone else notcied how jittery, less calming and how many more saves OMB has had to make in the last few games since Dawson has returned. He’s got the turning circle of a battleship, has to stop the ball first, run around it to play the perfect 10 yard pass to Kaboul and got bullied for Wolves’s opening goal. The sooner we see King/Kaboul partnership back the better.

    • Hopefully Sunday or else we”re banjaxed as neither Kaboul or Dawson possess a braincell to share. King’s intelligence allows either of the others to be rash and energetic, while King calms the ship and watches from afar, he’s such a class act and that’s who we should be looking to replace, and sooner rather than later!

  8. Listed in order of the chance we would have of signing them. All of these strikers have been linked with a move away from there current club and most to the premier league. The value is an estimate of what I think a team would have to cough up to bring these players in.

    Edinson Cavani, 24, £42m – …no chance
    Gonzalo Higuain, 24, £35m – …slim to no chance
    *Seydou Doumbia, 24, £25m – Clinical, #1 target imo.
Leandro Damiao, 22, £23m – spearhead were looking for.
Fernando Llorente, 26, £20m – big target man
Olivier Giroud, 25, worth £20m, priced at £40m..unlikely..
    Loic Remy, 25, £18m
    *Alvaro Negredo, 26, £16.5m
    Lucas Barrios, 27, £15m
    *Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, 28, £15m – fellow Dutchman
    Moussa Sow, 25, £12.5m
    *Lukas Podolski, 26, £12.5m – 14 goals 4 assists so far
    *Demba Ba, 26, £7.5m
    Papiss Cisse, 26, £12m
    *Luuk De Jong, 21, £8.5m – up-and-coming Dutchman
    Matías Suárez, 23, £7m
Nikica Jelavic, 26, £5m – fellow Croatian, Rangers ace
Jordan Rhodes, 21, £5m – promising young goal scorer

Enjoy, took about 20 minutes out of my life; a healthy amount of time that could’ve been spent exercising my right arm. I believe we should avoid the winter transfer market, players are almost always overpriced. I’d happily take another experienced on loan striker to see us through the season, and make our permanent signings in the summer. Although, with Gallas and King out with long term injuries and Dawson soon to follow, Vertonghen and Samba should be considered as we currently only have Bassong and Charlie as backups.
Also Souleymane Coulibaly is 17 years now and has been playing great in reserve matches. Rooney, James Vaughn, Milner, Wilshire, Lennon, Bent etc. were all 16 when they got their debuts; I think it’s time to, AT LEAST, give Coulibaly some match time in the FA cup.

    • Excellent list!

The order that I’d like them:

      Damiao
      De Jong
      Llorente
      Rhodes
      Demba Ba

I would guess that we won’t be able to hold onto Adebeyor after this season and we should have 4 (2 young, 2 experienced) forwards:
      Damiao/Llorente, Defoe, Rhodes, Coulibaly.

I’m purposely not listing VdV there because I think he’s a better AM (4-2-3-1) than forward…

  9. Just a thought, but my levy should say to modders do u wanna go or help turn this team into champions,if he wants to go swap for Torres and then go buy hazard for 25-30 mill,if he wants to stay then go get Torres for 30 mill.

    • Swap our best player, to our rivals, for a player they allegedly don’t even want. Nope, can’t think of anything wrong with that.

Tevez is the joint best forward in the Premier League (sadly joint with RVP) and would take Spurs to the next level. However we all know that we won’t break the bank to sign him or anyone.

We need a forward before Sunday who can play up front on his own, would be amazing to get Llorente but realistically any forward mentioned by RussJames would be a fantastic signing.

  10. WOW.. Alan Pardew has made some excellent signings since taking over at Newcastle. Demba Ba for Carroll, Cabeye for Nolan, Tiote for Barton(before Pardew i think but still great move), he brought in the very promising Santon from Inter, Obertan whose played for Bordeaux and Man U and is still only 22.. and now apparently Papiss Cisse is layin down the ink. Ba and Cisse will form a lethal partnership, the only thing better than Demba Ba, is two Demba Ba’s… and RVP.

  11. Can i just add, we do have Harry Kane, now i know hes young and not Ade standard, but give him a few games and he might find his feet like Livermore did…

  12. Also I want modders to stay but if uv seen hazard play u will know he pretty special and would b ideal replacement for him, and to palm Torres off is a mistake, he would thrive on the service we could give him.

    • You never know how a new player will slot into a side and Hazard is a natural winger anyway. Modric is arguably our best player and even another midfielder of a similar standard (of which there aren’t many about) might not gel with the squad. I think selling him would be a big mistake… although that £40m that Chelski bid is a hugely tempting sum.

I do think Torres would thrive at Spurs. He’s been on much better form recently despite not scoring and is still clearly a gifted player… his passing and assists have been great this season. £50m was an inflated valuation to begin with, though, and Chelsea won’t want to release him without recovering a big chunk of that.
