One of the main focuses for the transfer gossip columns is a mission to find a long term replacement for Ledley King. The name of Darijo Srna is the latest to earn a mention but does he have the experience and credentials needed to step into the club skipper’s boots?

At first glance the answer may be no because his favoured position is at right back. He can play as a right sided defensive midfielder but maybe that is one area of the squad that doesn’t need too much strengthening at present.

Srna is however very experienced and at the age of 29 he has 89 caps for Croatia. After starting his career with Hajduk Split he has spent the last nine years in the Ukraine with Shakhtar Donetsk where he has become the one of the most reliable members of their squad.

It’s not clear why he’s been mentioned in the same breath as Ledley King but Srna could be a useful addition to the club this summer.
