In recent years we’ve become used to Tottenham making late moves in the transfer market and leaving it right until the last moment before getting new players into the club. Sometimes it works – as in the case of Rafael van der Vaart but when the club tried to sign Blackpool’s Charlie Adam in January 2011, they literally ran out of time.

Move forward to 2012 and Harry brought Ryan Nelsen and Louis Saha to the club – signings that were met with mixed receptions.

Transfer rumours at this time of the year are nothing new but there have been some reports of advanced talks in some areas – most notably with Jan Vertonghen and Loic Remy. Euro 2012 could play a part in Remy’s case too – does he want to secure his future before he gets on the plane?

We will only know the answer as the summer unfolds but maybe Spurs will, for once, get their squad in place for the new season before it actually starts.

    • You’re such a well run club that trophies have now become meaningless to you, so lets see you parade your bags of Money around the streets of islington on your open top bus to celebrate being so well run.
      The mighty are falling/has fallen

    • Alfie baby, when was it last for you??2005 outplayed all game and won on penalties??hardly illustrious. With an old fashioned name like yours, you really should have more class, but being a traveller,it’s just not in you is it?:)

  1. What an appropriate name for Rotten. Which village is missing it’s idiot today. Arsenal fans must be proud to number this cretin among them..

  2. well thanks for that ROTTEN, very enlightening. May I suggest you go and sign on for your dole cheque and celebrate with 10 bensons & a very small bag of weed. It might help you mellow out a little. Maggot boy

    • Le arse, have more than their fair share of cretins in their ranks.I think it’s an entrance test they have to go through.

  3. What is it with Arse-en-hole fans posting on Spurs site’s it just proves what we all think that they are moronic twats!!!!

  5. Nice to see some intelligent and well thought out debate on here!!! Honestly children didnt your parents tell you not to swear so much??

  6. Arsenal fans are really weird- there is something seriously wrong with them. Anyway back to Tottenham related stuff, early signings will be great- i hate the fact we leave things to the last minute- i understand sometimes you can get a better deal but we need too make sure that new player have a pre season to gel with their new team mates. Seeing as i dont think we will be signing Hazard anymore, i still think we need to make one big signing- one that will actually improve us. Vertonghen will be a really good signing, and there has been talk of Hoillet and Lloris as well- they would be good signings without the ridiculous wage demands and transfer fees. But if we could sign maybe one star player like David Villa (he wants to leave Bara) or Higuain (he is currently playing second fiddle to Benzema) that would convicnce Modric/Bale and the rest of the team that we really do want to compete at the highest level. But there are other options like Gary Hooper from Celtic (why oh why he is not getting played for England only Lord knows) and Olivier Giroud from Montpellier! COYS!

    • Villa? Higuain? !!!!! Wake up man! We cannot even pay half of Adebayor’s wages, so how could we afford those guys – even if they would be interested in coming here (unlikely).

      • You never know- van der Vaart came did he not? We have a lot of potential- you never know- its unlikely but there is no harm in trying.COYS!

  7. i thought this article was about SPURS doing some early transfers i don’t see why Arsenal “fans” have to comment on it worry about your own team!! i think vertonghen will be in the bag by Monday and looks like modric is going to be a c*** again so we should probably ship him out early and get a replacement quick so are team can gel in pre-season.

  8. Yeah, hopefully. When it comes to transfers, we’ve been fairly quietly over the last couple of seasons so it’s time to make money from the fringe players and then spend it.
I seriously hope Levy quickly pays up the reported two extra million Ajax are after for Jan Vertonghen because we may not have Champions League to offer after Saturday. Sign him while it’s a possibility.

  9. @ROTTEN – you goonies can keep looking up aswell at the two manc’s finishing above your shower of shite every season. COYS !

The gap between your mums left fanny flap and the right is at least three foot.

        What your priority?………mind the gap.

Also stop licking knob cheese!!!! It’s unsavoury.

  10. In fairness to the Arsenal fans who have found this page, it goes both ways. I opened an Arsenal page off our site yesterday and noticed a number of our fans trying their best to get a reaction.

    • There’s banter and there’s chatting absolute Sh!t, this guy Rotten has his arse and his mouth in the wrong place, or maybe it’s just one & the same!?

  12. my dram squad 2012-2013 foster walker,dawson,vertoghen ,b aekot diarra sandro hulk/hazard ganso/lukas affalala falcao sub1.fridel 2. Van dar vaart 3. Isla/marin 4lennon/hoilet 5.defoe/remy 4-2-3-1

  13. I would like to talk about spurs ,i hope we do try to sign some players early but i think there is more to it ,i think daniel levy does not like to spend money we put out so many rumours of players we are interested signing and then leave it till the last minute to try and get them and end up with no one . We know we have defensive problems so why not just sign vertonghen we need him and he has actualy said he wants to play for us , if levy thinks we are paying over the odds then try to save the extra money he thinks we are spending somewhere else like get a midfielder for less money or sell a few players to get some money back . Its a rare thing for someone to say they actualy want to play for spurs with europe not certain so stop messing around get him now and prove you are ambitious mr levy.

  14. Invest in ganso he will be worth a lot of money in the future check him out on youtube to me if he keeps going the way he is he’ll be as good as ronaldo trust me .

  15. Yep, let’s sign some players early for once. We’ve been linked with Vertonghen and Remy for far too long to be let down by Levy leaving it too late.

And to Arsenal – well done for finishing 1 points above us with double the wage bill, all because of a dodgy West Brom keeper. Well done indeed.

  16. LETS HAVE SOME TRUTH FOR A CHANGE.HARRY HAS NEVER EVER SAID THAT HE WILL WIN ANY COMPETITION,BUT THAT FROG OF AN IDIOT WHINGER HAS FOR THE LAST 4 SEASONS SAID THAT THE GOONERS WERE ON TRACK TO WIN THE QUADRUPLE. GOD WOT A PRAT.

  17. Im not sure about remy if he signs for spurs it will be for money or to play in the champions league if we get there, when we first tried to get him he said he did not want to play for us his heart is not with us we should forget him , We should have got leandro damaio while we had the chance we just did’nt offer enough money we need to make one big offer he cant refuse because his value will keep going up because he is young and he would be in the european spotlight then there is hazard we were the first british team to go after him and he was interested in joining us untill the so called big boys started to take notice ,players like hazard like to go where they are almost garrenteed trophies they have no faith in their own ability to help transform a team below the “big boys” into possible trophy and league winners. Modric has stated he dosent want to leave for money or he would have taken what daniel has offered he’s said he will wait till after euro’s and when he knows who the manager will be . I think luka wants spurs to be stable before making his mind up.

  18. I think that purchasing players earlier this summer is better. Just imagine if the player you want to sign turns out to be the best player at the Euro’s!

Harry and Daniel have both looked at areas where Spurs need to buy players or even replace players.

There are 4 main areas that Spurs need to buy players for.

    1st) Goalkeeper

Brad has had a wonderful season and yes there maybe another season in him, but I feel that we need a young up coming goalkeeper. Forget the rumours of Robert (Disaster) Green and also Ben (Will I ever be the number 1) Foster. I say try someone like Alex Smithie of Huddersfield Town. He’s the under 21 England Goalkeep already and under the right coach he could be a contender to Joe Hart.

2nd) The defence, with Kaboul now a cert in the team we need to buy his central defence partner. King is a fantastic player but how many games can you get from him? Dawson has had a really bad season with injuries. The trouble Dawson has is his speed (or lack of it). He is good in the air but when he defends against a player with good speed and control then Dawson has trouble. So to this Jan Vertonghen is the perfect buy. Even better is the fact that he can plan anywhere in the back 4.
    So that’s two players needed…..

3rd player) I’ll move to the strikers and come back to the midfield.
I think that Ade will stay this season, this will be made possible by other players. This will again relate back to the midfield player.
I also think that Spurs will bring in Loic Remny, however this will depend on the result on Saturday. (Remember to cheer Bayern on this Saturday)

4th player) Again this depends on a couple of things. Firstly that we get into the Champions league. Secondly will depend on a certain Spurs midfielder actually going to Man City. So I think you can guess that Luca Modric will leave for Man City, included in this move are two ther things. Ade joining Spurs as part of the deal, Man City not purchasing a certain player. That player being Eden Hazzard.

So all these deals depend on Spurs going through to the Champions League.

I think the team for the start of the season will be:-

    Freidl

    Walker
    Kaboul
    Vertonghen
    Ekotoo

    Lennon
    Parker
    Hazzard
    Bale

    Ade
    Remny

    Subs or other players:-
    Smithies Gk
    King CD
    Van De Vaat
    Defoe
    Dawson
    Sandro
    Huddlestone
    Saha
    Caulker
    Gallas

    Ins:-
    Ade
    Hazzard
    Vertonghen
    Remny

    Maybe Ins:-
    Hoilett
    Moses
    Foster

    Out:-
    Modric
    Neilson
    Townsend

    Maybe Outs:-
    Gallas
    Huddlestone
    Naughton
    Defoe
    Gomez
    Cuddiccini

    Loans Out:-
    Kane
    Carroll
    Perritt
    Bostwick
    Dawson
    Huddlestone

I’m sure that Spurs will again loan out some of the future stars. But if Spurs want to challenge on four fronts, Spurs will need to have strength in depth.
Whatever happens, let’s get behind our team and cheer them onto VICTORY!!!

    • Andy, that’s a pretty well thought out list.

Do we really want to switch back to a 4-4-2? We do need a more potent striker up front, but other than that our game looked really good this season.

You’ve listed them as maybe but I think someone who can add cover to both wings is essential. Lennon and/or Bale WILL get injured in the season, and currently our only option is to play someone (VDV/Modric) out of position.

Also, I think it’s necessary to get a young understudy keeper now, instead of waiting until we need a replacement and have to bring whoever happens to be available into the team. Let them adjust to the team now as well as learn under Friedel.

Last — I think we need to keep Hudd. He’s had some bad injury time the past two seasons, but he’s still only 25 and an excellent deep-lying playmaker.
That would give us (with your trades):
Hazard, Hudd, VdV, Sandro, Parker, Livermore in the center. Hazard will also — I assume, be providing cover to the sides and with CL (hopefully) we could use the cover. Not to mention VdV and Parker aren’t getting any young.

      Good post, though.

      • Apparently, Hazard has said he will be playing in Manchester next season. Personally we should do everything to keep Modric and Bale- we need to add to them not sell them. Huddlestone needs to stay, We need to bring in Hugo Lloris as our new keeper and Jan Vertonghen. Hoillet on a free would be a smart signing with Ade and maybe another world class striker coming in.

  19. Don’t be silly spuds the only thing you’d CAPONS take early is a bath with rotten ‘Ainging out the back of ya EAST EAST EAST LONDON COYI!

  20. LEVY JUST NEEDS TO GET SOME NEW BLOOD IN.GET RID OF MODS AND THE OLD FART ARMY TAKING OVER AT THE LANE.REDKNAPP OUT TOO.

  21. i think huddlestone would have made a difference this season he has the ability to score goals and i cant wait for him to be back next season. I wouldnt be shocked if we signed rossi villareal were relegated and harry seems to have the hots for him. Sign vertohgen and ade and we will be strong for next season rossi ade up front would be world class attack we would be solid down back with naughton staying as cover for walker and caulker playing the odd game too. And if we manage to sell bentley Jenas Charlie we should then put in a cheeky bid for Adam Johnson

    • Bill I like the sound of that. If we got vertohgen, rossi, A. Johnson, Ade and add remy to that list I think we could be aiming high next season. Huddlestone will also be like a new signing. Naughton and Vertoghen for right and left back cover respectively (Vertoghen would be a starting centre back but can play left back as he is left footed and skillful) and Johnson would be cover for both wings should one of bale or lennon get injured and in fact I would start him ahead of lennon. Remy for his raw pace and power (and I’m sure he’ll improve on his goal tally per season with better service) and Rossi for his skills, Intelligence and composure in front of goal. Mouth watering prospect

  22. I’m glad the season is ova now apart from
The champions league final on Saturday, as bale and co looked tired, we need to ship out Saha, nelson, king to retire and be defencive coach, sell jenas, dos santos, bentley, and now modric is moaning again I say sell him get the 40 mil city or manure are going to pay and bring in sniedjer??, sign jan vertogen sorry if spelt wrong lol,and Lioc Remy and maybe adebayor on loan again and a new and younger goalie coyssssa

  23. Any of these would bolster and improve the squad

    GK: Lloris, Howard, ter Stegen
DF: Vertonghen (CB/LB), Buttner (LB), Rakitskiy (CB/LB), Boly (CB), Dede (CB), Mbola (LB who we ‘signed’ a while ago)
MF: Hazard, Clasie (MC), Martin (AMC), Hoilett, Kagawa, Moses, Krhin (MC)
FW: Remy, Damiao, Huntelaar, Giroud, Mehmedi, Ansarifard

Obviously some household names there, but the whole ‘has no PL experience’ thing has to give way to overseas talent, as well as to those in the lower leagues in this country. There are always flops but you know, some of the smaller names would be worth a punt as the transfer fee wouldn’t be insane like Hazard and now Damiao.

Think GK, CB, LB, winger cover/improvements and a couple of strikers would be the most important, although if Modric leaves the MC option probably couldn’t be covered by Livermore or Carroll…

    Thoughts?
