The names of two goalkeepers feature heavily this morning and while some papers are suggesting that Spurs will make an improved bid for French international Hugo Lloris, others are claiming that any approach for Jack Butland will be rebuffed.

Some papers were suggesting that Tottenham were going in for both Lloris and Butland in an attempt to overhaul their ageing keeper list at the club. Butland is just 19 so playing second fiddle at a Premiership club might be a logical step but his new manager at Birmingham has insisted that ‘silly money’ will be needed.

“If other clubs want my players, I’m cool because it means they’re good,” Lee Clark said. “But it will take a crazy transfer fee for Jack to leave this club.”

The reports on Lloris may be more encouraging however with the media adamant that Spurs went in with an offer for the French number one of £12m last week. That was rejected by his club Lyon who are thought to want something nearer £16m but Spurs feel that a compromise is possible.

One thing these stories do suggest however, is that the futures of Friedel, Cudicini and Gomes may lie outside of White Hart Lane.

  1. In terms of FIFA games, Lloris’ rating would go down to like 81 if he signed for Spurs its typical media anti-Spurs attitude. In terms of real life however, both signings would be very important and good for the club. AVB is doing well so far

  2. Lloris has always been one of my favourite goalkeepers and with someone like him at the club, A French captain, we are surely going to attract some really big names to the club. Vive la Yidos! Fssssuck le Arsesnal

  3. How come we’ve got all this money to spend?
I know we’ve only spent like £8m net so far. Say another £15m for Lloris then surely that’s our budget spent.
Obviously if Modders goes then we’ll have another £30m+ but surely we’ve got £10m earmarked for Ade.
Surely it’s a case of seeing what we can get from JJ, Bentley, Gio etc before we can start spending a bit more

    • we have money because levy spent hardly anything in the last 3 windows and we sold crouch pav corluka krancjar – and we will get 30 plus for modric so there is money there – we got sigurdsson vertonghen we now need lloris a replacement for modric and a striker so we are far from done if we offload jenas bassong gomes its a bonus

  4. No, no, no, no, no. If the Butland bid fails, AVB should use the money to strengthen another position and then try to sign either Allan McGregor or Craig Gordon.

    • Keiran you are quite possibly insane my friend, as rightly pointed our further down this comments page, neither are good enough.

I personally think Friedel would do another season, however Lloris would be a splendid signing to help move us forward the important 5% that is needed in a couple of key positions, a la GK.

  5. McGregor or Gordon???!!!! are you MENTAL?!
Gordon isn’t good enough for Sunderland, and McGregor is average at best.
Lloris (while not my 1st choice) is better than both of them put together!
We are moving forwards, not backwards!!!

  6. So three of our transfer targets (assuming we bag Lloris) have apparently spurned advances from Arsenal (Vertonghen, Lloris) and Liverpool (Sigurdsson) to sign with Spurs. It really is a funny old world we live in at the moment, but I am thoroughly enjoying it. Here’s hoping the season lives up to the transfer window COYS

  7. For me if we can get £30+ and Sahin or Diarra otherwise
how about £30+ and sturridge would then give us a free run on Oscar thoughts……..

  8. Although it’s very exciting being linked with the all the players we have been, as well as the signings we have made. I feel it’s important to remember that it is evolution NOT revolution that is required at Spurs.

If Lloris come in great, but Brad could probably do another season. After that complete the Ade deal + one other striker and cover for Lennon and then we’d be done. Signings like Oscar, Dzagoev, Moutinho et al should only be considered if the expected transfer of Modders goes through.

    • Ade and Damiao/Remy HAVE to be the priority. Think Dzagoev could provide competition for Lennon, as could Afellay who we have attempted to sign in the past, and now seems likely to leave Barcelona. Both players are versatile and can provide much needed rotation options across the front (minus the striker) three.

Lloris/Mandanda/Boruc should be looked at very seriously, and the acquisition of Jack Butland could prove a great standing for the future, even if he is loaned back to Birmingham for a couple of seasons to attain first team experience in a decent league (League 2 being his only first team experience so far).
