Spurs head coach Andre Villas-Boas has responded to the rumours linking Rafael van der Vaart with a move away from the club and has insisted that the Dutchman is part of his plans. Stories about a potential departure to Germany first surfaced prior to the Euros and at this stage they still linger.
The two German sides involved are Schalke 04 and VDV’s former club Hamburg and in recent days there have been conflicting stories as to whether either club can afford the Dutchman.
Villas-Boas however, claimed that he is relying on the player to stay.
“With Van der Vaart, at the moment I am absolutely counting on him,” said Villas-Boas.
“It is a totally different situation from Luka who has been chased by different clubs in the past two seasons and is continuing to drag interest.
“We have to make sure the club’s interests are met and it is up to the chairman to decide that.”
Last week, Van der Vaart also said that he would ‘probably’ stay at the club and while neither of these quotes will make the rumours go away, it may now seem more likely that the Dutchman will take his place in the Spurs squad for 2012-13.
