At least three players have now been mentioned as potential makeweights as part of a deal taking Luka Modric to Real Madrid and centre half Ricardo Cavalho is just one of those. However, the suggestion that he may be on his way to White Hart Lane has intensified with reports that the Portuguese is surplus to requirements at the Bernabeu.
The defender has fallen some way below Pepe and Sergio Ramos in the club’s pecking order and according to the press back in his homeland, Real have now given him permission to leave.
Carvalho is 34 but Spurs still have needs in defence despite the arrival of Jan Vertonghen. The experience is undoubtedly there but can he spend more time on the pitch than our other crop of defensive 30-somethings?
The view is that the former Chelsea man could still come as part of the transfer that would see Modric heading the other way but would this be good or bad news for the club?
