As the first team squad travelled to the US over the weekend, there was only one story dominating the headlines. The key player left behind was Luka Modric who has now incurred fines of £160,000 – one for failing to turn up for training and the other for refusing to travel with the rest of the squad.

“I think Modric is wrong. This will go against him. He has worsened the situation with what he’s doing and now the chairman is very angry,” said Andre Villas-Boas at the weekend.

The Croatian did find a little sympathy however from former Real Madrid player Rafael van der Vaart,

“You can’t compare Real Madrid with other teams because they are the biggest team in the world. It was really an honour that I played there and I’m still really thankful. I think every player wants to play there,” VDV said.

“I’ve been one of the closest people to Modric in the dressing room and I feel for him. It is a difficult situation. The chairman is angry but Luka is very upset with what is happening. I think everything will be fixed in three or four days,” he added.

Like Rafa, many are now expecting this transfer to be sorted asap but it’s been dragging on for weeks now with no solution. Last season, Daniel Levy said that he was prepared to see Luka rot in the stands – could it even come to that?

  1. A contract’s a contract. As long as we get around £30 million for him, and Jese/Joselu, or another player to help build the squad, then he can go. Need the money to reinvest, especially if we have to meet Moutinho’s buy-out clause.

  2. Aside from the contract, the club have placed a very realistic valuation on him. If another party is interested then great, pay up. I really don’t see why they feel the need for him. I can see him sitting on the bench a lot.

  3. THE LITTLE TURD HAS NO HONOUR HE COMPLETLY FORGETS ALL SPURS HAVE DONE FOR HIM , ALL FOOTBALLERS AND MANAGERS / COACHES ARE MERCENERYS AND ARE LOOKING FOR THE FINAL BIG PAY DAY MODRIC IS NO DIFFERENT , HE IS VASTLY OVERRATED ANYHOW HE HAS NO GOAL RECORD HE HAS NO ASSISTS HE IS NO SILVA NO GERRARD , NO MESSI , NO WONDER BOY GET SHOT OFF ASAP COYS !!!!!

  4. my greatest fear about this is, it drags on till the last two days and we do the same old run around to try to secure targets before the window shuts and we miss out. we need two strikers well before the season starts. I do agree with Levy, we cannot be bullied by the big spanish duo, let Madrid get away with him cheap and Barca will be offering three hot dogs and a coke for Bale , but for gods sake, get a move on it driving me insane. COYS

  5. Let him rot!
He is a petulant child who has disrespected the club and the Chairman, he still has 4 years on his contract, Levy can afford to play hard ball and keep fining him all the time that he does not keep in line, he is overpriced but Levy will get his fee eventually and will get a better replacement for half the money.
He is over rated but the media have done that…
Happy to see him leave rather than have this every year!

    • no no no if you put your prized asset with second team it brings the value down
Levy is right to to bring this guy down… 4 years and you start whining.. modric is The one who signatured the contract and for that f…keep your word

  6. You have to remember that Daniels mother is ill. This takes greater priority than a spoilt schoolboy. I think Modric will regret his actions. We already have enough midfield strength to let him rot.
Need to sign a striker (or 2) and we will be ok.
Two good signings so far, need now to be patient.

  7. If you let him rot we’re in a lose-lose situation, no lucre and no Luka. Take £20m and Rodriguez and be done with it.

  8. I agree we should sell him and use the money to buy players who want to play for the club, but have a terrible feeling this will be another 31 August debacle.

  9. 2011-12 APP= 40 GOALS = 5 ASSISTS = 6……..With these statistics are we going to sell him.(I THINK NOT).No wonder Madrid are in no hurry to push the deal through. So with him still having 4 years on his contract.Put him in the reserves let him stay there.Or better still let him stay at home all week then we fine him a weeks wages every week his at home.

  10. As he chose not to accept the last contract offered, he still has 4 years on his contract, but his pay is an affordable £40K per week. It would be nice to get rid of him now and use the cash to replace him, but if necessary, of course we can afford to let him rot!

  11. 1) Let Modric and Real feel that we are not impressed. Keep on fining him, good money being saved for other purposes.
    2) But, give room to an acceptable deal (35 million), Modric will never be the same player at WHL anymore.
    3) Keep on talking to PSG or spread some rumors at least.
    4) We cannot lose this poker game in the long run.
    5) Levy will handle this fine, don’t worry.

  12. Modric still has approx 4 years remaining on his current contract in which case, Spurs can let him rot on the bench if they so choose, they have the legal right as the contract holder however, they would still have to pay his wages and I can’t see Daniel Levy going down that route. The alternatives are to either sell the ungrateful ugly little Croatian barstard overseas or send him out on loan, rather like City did with Ade but overseas and let that club pay for his services for a year. Russia would be good destination, his ex National manager Slavan Bilic is there along with his ex Spurs team mates and fellow Croats. Pav can also keep him company and show him around.
The way this is being played out does not suggest that Spurs are waiting for money from the sale of Modric in order to bring in his replacement whoever that may be.
Get the new man in NOW and blood him with the team before it’s too late to do so.
Daniel Levy will no longer be bullied by anyone and that includes Real Madrid, Barcelona, ManC, ManU or Chelsea.
I have no doubt that AS, that well known arselicking Spanish rag, dedicated to Real Madrid, will pull up another ex RM player who will suggest Modric join their wonderful club hahahaha.

  13. why would we let him rot?
I say cash in on him and bring in someone that DOES want to play for the shirt.
Its a shame, as i loved Luka, but now, for me, he will never be welcomed back.

  14. Hahaha…it’s funny to hear the tight ass club like spuds fc get all upset about Modric… Let’s see now got V Vart off Madrid basically for free..they are always looking for bargin basement price for top players. Got kranjncar for nothing then inflate his price.. There is a bit of a pattern that follows dont u think???tight ass J .. I hope dos santos F ya.. What half decent players want to come to spuds fc.. Not pay the money… Not want to go .. Good luck yr going to need it hahahaha spurs r a joke

  15. @steve………dont you have a dog that needs its arse licked clean? Or are you still boring holes in crusty loaves fresh from the oven with your pecker? Whatever it is you normally do, hurry up and fuk off back to it!

  16. I am deeply sick to my stomach, though not surprised by this latest twist to the tale. Management need to demonstrate that this kind of behaviour is completely unacceptable and will be met with swift and painful consequences. Make it clear to all that he will not be selected again for Spurs, invite non-european loan offers that maintain his stock value, and have no possible impact on our campaign. As a contracted player is expected meet his obligations to train with the team, otherwise we are legally entitled to fine him. Then sell him in January or at the end of the season. Yes it will probably mean we don’t get 40m for him, but it makes a clear statement of intent, trying to piss on Spurs will only get you shafted by the mighty cockerel 😀

what a stupid cunt you are.

I have nothing further to add.

    you gobshite cunt

  18. Those that say get a replacement in now and sell Modric later, whilst I totally agree with that sentiment, the problem is that it would weaken Spurs bargaining leverage as other clubs would then know that we HAVE to sell Modric

  19. let Modric go for 35 pounds he does not want to be with us so… but I am with Levy ..he’s under contract and he should respect it.
avb is new so he shou;d be able to transform the team to he’s liking
