M’Vila rumour gathers pace

by Matthew Harris on August 13, 2012

Over the course of the weekend, reports gathered momentum linking Rennes midfielder Yann M’Vila with a move to the Premiership after his club claimed that they had received a concrete bid from England. Those reports continued to claim that the bid was from Spurs and not from Arsenal, who are thought to have tracked the player for some time.

The player himself, while apparently open to a move, is concentrating on the new French season.

For now, I’m here and I’m not complaining,” M’Vila said.

“I am available to the coach and I give my best as always.

“If I have to stay with Rennes for another year, I’ll stay – if I go, that is life – but whilst I am here, I am 100 per cent focused.”

M’Vila is 22 and is deployed by club and country as a defensive midfielder. He has already won 22 caps for the full French side and is regarded as one of the best prospects in the country right now.

Whether Spurs really are in the frame remains to be seen but time is now running out to secure anyone’s services prior to the start of the season.

i know all spurs fans will say , we dont need an other midfielder ect but m villa is young and a class act – jenas huddlestone are not good enough for spurs starting 11 parker is almost 34 so we do need a midfielser and this guy will be a good signing and can slot in alongside sandro and we will have two good soild midfielders and let the likes of bale vdv sigurdsson roam free to attack -

Parker is actually 31…. Huddlestone has proven that he is good enough when we first finished fourth. He has just been injured since.

akshayaalase stop posting, you’re ridiculous. I think M’Vila would be a suitable replacement for Modric, I can see him and Sandro developing a similar partnership to Barry and Toure at City. M’Vila doubles up as Rennes playmaker so we’d still have creativity from deep, and it would also free up Sig, Bale, VdV Lennon and whatever striker we bring in to score the goals.

Let me guess your 30 and still live with your mum?

M’villa would probably be fine — attitude might be an issue.

I’d like to see Moussa Sissoko brought in as depth in the midfield. Good box-to-box, able to play as a holding mid or attacking. He’s only 22 and would have time to grow into the squad.

Long term midfield of:

Sissoko as DM
Sandro as CM (box-to-box)
Gylfi AM

Livermore, Hudd, Carrol as options. Parker’s great, but nearing the end.
