After a summer of rumour, gossip and the occasional piece of news, it’s back to business on the pitch and trying to think of what else to write about between now and December.

After the last kick of 2011-12, we have now seen Corluka, Kranjcar, Pienaar, Modric and Bassong leave the club while Gio Dos Santos and Rafael van der Vaart left on permanent deals on deadline day. In addition, Harry Kane and Danny Rose were farmed out on loan.

Jan Vertonghen and Gylfi Sigurdsson were the early arrivals and before the window slammed shut, Emmanuel Adebayor, Moussa Dembele, Clint Dempsey and Hugo Lloris joined them but there was no late deal for Porto’s Joao Moutinho.

The transfer of VDV caused a fair bit of debate at the time although it had been seen as inevitable by many as the final week of August drew on. Our ‘hostage’ Dos Santos was finally released but did the clear out go far enough?

Overall was it a good summer of dealing for you or is there a transfer into or out of the club that you have rather not seen take place?

  2. For me on the whole it was a good summer. Obviously it could have been better but we a strong core with promise in our new signings. With some windows still open we still have the chance to get rid of Bentley, Jenas and Gomes.

  3. I wonder how long Jenas, Bentley etc have left on their contract, I cannot see another one being offered to them.
Gomes is on last year as was dos santos.
Obviously the wages are higher than what they are worth so if loaned out will be to desperate clubs or part financed by spurs.
It will be interesting if Carroll is loaned out or not

  4. We had ‘the Project’. We were getting rid of the old to make ay for the esciting new to push us on. Harry could not get us to top spot, but Levy, AVB and the project could.
Then Levy botches the Moutinho transfer – and instead of Llorente or Leandro or Willian we put in a last-minute bid for Berbatov. Not inspiring.

  5. Sorry to burst some fans bubbles (hammers?) but Moutinho wasn’t about to be signed by spurs on friday. He was actually getting on an internal flight in portugal with his teammates for next days match. Total bollox by sky and echoed by usual suspects. Do you honestly belive a player on an “agreed transfer” would do that? Unbelievable what some will fall for: wishful thinking i guess.

  6. Ah well, now there’s January to look forward to. Swear we have a working relationship with Standard Liege so we should be able to get Fryers in fairly soon, which will be great.

Think it’s pretty obvious who should have gone as well.

    Jan ins?

Pierre Emerick Aubameyang, who we should have signed this window as a perfect alternative to the versatile Loic Remy.

    Moutinho/Pjanic – obvious

Leandro Damiao – end of the season in Brazil, it’s a possibility, though I have a feeling he will be an Internacional legend for years to come

From what I’ve seen of the reserves, I have hope in:

Alex Pritchard – tricky winger to cover Lennon i.e. what many were calling for

Grant Hall – solid centre back we signed from Brighton, who has played competitively

For the next season – Coulibaly, Gomelt, Bentaleb and Veljkovic. Don’t know how old they are but they are solid players already.

  7. I’m obviously unhappy with the season results to date, but don’t understand the pessimism in general and frustration with AVB in general.

We got about as far as we would with Harry and (to dare is to do) took a gamble on a young manager with new ideas. I’d love to do well this season and think we can, but I’ll be judging AVB NEXT season after he’s had a chance to adjust the squad some and get everyone familiar with his style.

We were never going to be amazing these first few games with so much uncertainty and new players. The biggest complaint I have about the transfers is not who came in/out but that it largely happened so late with no time to train together and adjust to a new style.

We got several players that the team needs and presumably there’s a good amount left for January. I’d like to see a playmaker (i.e. Moutinho) lined-up and agreed to switch at the beginning of the next window.

There’s always room for improvement but I’m happy — overall — with this transfer window. Gylfi seems like an even replacement for VdV but he’s young enough he’ll still be improving. Great. Dembele and Dempsey add cover all over. We got the keeper everyone had been hoping for as well as Vertonghen in front of him. Ade on permanent and apparently we were minutes from getting Moutinho.

Let’s show some support and patience (as long as positive steps are being taken).

    COYS!

    • Totally agree. Got the hangover from last season anyway, despite the encouraging pre-season. Let’s hope Levy is more patient than Abramovich.

      • that means he was there all along for the taking. we should have taken the money from mods and turned it over to get moutinho. depends if you think its a fair trade. but AVB works well with him so yeah.

  8. William should be playing for spurs, our no1 and probably only error, i think, we need to play for the win, means every form of error, team weakness, and waste must be extinguished, loss of kaboul and Parker is disastrous, can’t wait to see them back in the team, I think we need both adebayo and defoe on for 90minutes , bale should be captain or Dempsey, someone wanting the team to win, gallas needs to be replaced but not sure Dawson can do any better, the team needs more desire
