There are a number of injury concerns for Tottenham ahead of this match but ultimately we don’t envisage too many changes from the side that beat Reading last weekend.

Speaking before the Lazio game AVB said,

“Ade has been struggling with a muscle injury, so he will be out of the game. Benoit is still out, we’re waiting for the specialist to see his knee.

“Jake is making a good recovery from his groin strain, we’re looking to have him back in 10, 15 more days.

“Scotty is still a bit far off, maybe three weeks before he returns to first team training, so slowly making progress and Younes is out for some time.”

There is a feeling that Adebayor could be fit for this one but it would be a surprise if Jermain Defoe doesn’t start as the lone striker once again. Elsewhere, the coach might look to accommodate Clint Dempsey after his impressive performance against Lazio.

We think that the personnel will be unchanged however and that the line up will look like this. What’s your view?

  1. LLORIS WALKER CAULKER GALLAS VERTONGHEN LENNON SANDRO DEMBELE BALE DEFOE DEMPSEY , WOULD IT NOT BE A GOOD IDEA TO INCREASE A FOOTBALL TEAM TO 12 A KEEPER IS VIRTUALY STATIC AND IT WOULD GIVE A MANAGER LESS OF A HEADACE PLUS 11 OUTFIELD PLAYERS WOULD EASE UP ANY SQUABBLING THERE MOST CERTAINLY IS IN ANY SQUAD OF PLAYERS .

  2. Wouldn’t be surprised if Caulker was introduced into the team on Thursday so that he is ready for Sunday.

So, maybe Gallas and Caulker in the middle with Vertonghen playing left-back. Although Naughton may have earned another start.

  3. Is naughton fit? He left the lane on crutches and a protective boot. If hes not i would put bale at left back. He should be more effective and harder to mark coming from a deeper position.

    • I would love it if we played Bale more as a left back.
All good teams need great footballers in every position,
      I like Benny though.

  4. ——————friedel—————-
    Walker–caulker-vert—-naughton
    –dembele—–sandro—siggurdsson
    —-dempsey—defoe———-bale
    Sub.
Lennon for impact sub if needed
(But i do hate him, bad end product… weakness in the whole team

    In future:
    ade/lloris in

  5. I think AVB should rest a few so I’d play
    Friedel, Walker, Dawson, Caulker, Naughton
    Thud, Dembele
    Townsend, Sigurdsson, Dempsey
    Ade
Bench: Lloris, Gallas, Vertonghen, Jenas, Bale, Lennon, Defoe

  6. ………………….Lloris
    Walker Vertonghen Caulker Naughton
    ……Dembele Sandro Bale
    Lennon Defoe Dempsey
    4-3-3.
Gallas will start above Caulker but that is a mistake
COYS and fingers crossed Lloris plays

  7. must agree with the original team picked, this is the team i expect avb to play, however he is capable of a few suprises. I would certainly like to see caulker play against the teams with a big lump up top, feel he would have handled Holt better than gallas, although gallas’ experience is essential when playing the top teams.

  8. I don’t pick the side, the manager does. That’s why the club pay him a lot of money, and I pay them to watch. I’m glad it’s his decision about the ‘keeper, not mine. Verts may move to left back and Caulker could come in depending on the severity of Naughtons injury. Sandro and Dembele should start on current form, with either of Bale or Lennon due a dropping to the subs bench as a kick up the a*se to get them playing properly again. It looks as if AVB may have the luxury of picking from three fit strikers, JD, Dempsey and Ade. I feel as if this could be a proper SQUAD game with all subs being used tactically, (no more injuries please). C.O.Y.S.

    • Defoe is better than Ade, not understanding that very simple fact is part of what cost Harry his job, basic common sense, but who ever said it was common.

  9. Caulker will be huge and should play now. Lloris or Friedel is a press induced red herring. Good options and shape elsewhere, but lack of out-and-out striker back up will hurt if injuries and/or loss of form – most likely!

All in all looks v good! COYS

  10. Adebayor has to play.. He is a focal point and without him we play further back the pitch. With his ability and holding ball and bringing others into play we will dominate further up pitch, leading to more goals. Feel for Defoe but if he was that good he would play more regularly for England when others are fit and a top club would have signed him in the past, he is a goal scorer but unfortunately detracts from our over all game.

  11. All depends on naughton’s fitness as to what starting line up will b, if he’s out I wouldn’t move verthongen out of cb he’s our best centre-half & should stay in centre. Id leave gallas in centre as well less running than at lb & he would get skinned by wright-Phillips. I’d either move walker lb & put caulker rb or just play caulker lb he’s a rolls royce of a defender it would b no bother to him. I’d go with lloris in goal otherwise same as reading.
Lloris walker gallas verthongen caulker, lennon sigg sandro dembele bale, Defoe subs Friedal smith Dawson hudd townsend dempsey Ade? If out tom Carroll

  12. Defoe as a lone striker still doesn’t cut it for me. He needs a partner! I hope I’m proved wrong but we will struggle to score enough goals to win matches this season if defoe keeps playing alone upfront. So far its only worked against reading who really were poor on the day! We are however potentially only 2-3 players off a prem challenge once settled. If we could somehow sign moutinho, llorente and a back up decent winger/left back I think we would be a complete squad. This team for next season would be amazing (4-2-3-1): Lloris. Walker-Kaboul-Vertonghen-Assou. Sandro-Moutinho. Dempsey, Dembele, Bale. Llorente. Subs: Gomes, Caulker, Parker, Sigurdsen, Lennon, Defoe, Ade. Squad: Cudicini, Dawson, Naughton, Hudd, Livermore, Townsend, Mason, Falque, Carroll, Kane, Coulybaly. Release/Sell: Frediel, Gallas, Rose, Bentley, Jenas. Future could potentially be bright.

    • I would add Alex Pritchard and Cristian Cebellos to that squad. These are the two most talented creative young players at Spurs and hopefully the future of the attacking midfield.

I would also sell Livermore because he is an average player.

      • Livermore would be lucky to be classed as average, he is pathetic and also he thinks he is a celebrity hanging around with the munters of The only way is Essex. Livermore is a wanker.

  13. Bale has done very little so far. In all the games, I only remember one trademark run. In the second half against Lazio, he was all over the place and ineffective. The team shape got knocked out by his wanderings.

Maybe time to temporarily drop Bale for Dempsey or Townsend.
