Last night’s game had every chance of becoming an annual banana skin but in the end, a young Spurs outfit were pretty impressive as they brushed aside Carlisle by three goals to nil.

After a Jan Vertonghen header edged the first period, superb efforts by Andros Townsend and Gylfi Sigurdsson sealed the win while a clean sheet at the back would have also pleased the Spurs coaching staff.

“It wasn’t easy in the first half, Carlisle played well,” said Steffen Freund after the match.

“It was a test for our young team but in the end we created chances and deserved to win.

“Michael Dawson came back in and played well as skipper, he led the team with Tom Huddlestone in front of him. I’m really happy because we won 3-0 and kept a clean sheet.”

Full debuts were given to Ryan Mason and Adam Smith while Carlo Cudicini, Michael Dawson, Tom Huddlestone and Yago Falque all made their first starts this season and given the make-up of the side, this was a decent result to say the least.

Norwich await in the next round of the Capital One Cup and for those of us old enough to remember, it’s a repeat of the 1973 Wembley encounter, known all over the world as the Ralph Coates final…

  1. ……well I aint jumping up and down yet pulling my beefstick in a celebratory j arthur until we beat Chavski, Horse Shit and the Arse in PL fixtures. Would be nice to be able to beat all 3 of them in the same season, but I keep hoping!!

  2. Real happy that AVB finally played DAWS.
For next weeks game with Man U, AVB shud play starting from defence, with ball winners, such as Kyle, Dawson, Caulker, Vertonghen. Gallas to stand by…period.
Spurs need Ball-winners at defence, and quick on the attack, from our fantastic wingers, and midfield winners of Dembelle, Sandro. Defoe and Dempsey, it’s up to AVB.

  3. For Spurs to continue marching on, Spurs have ball winners, that can match the best in the EPL, in Vertonghen, Bale, Lennon, Kaboul ( when fit ), DAWSON..yes DAWS, Dembelle, Sandro. These are amongst the best in EPL…potential match winners.
