According to Spurs head coach Andre Villas-Boas, Jermain Defoe’s excellent start to the season is down to the faith shown in him by the coaching staff and AVB himself. Defoe has been trusted with the lone striker’s role at White Hart Lane this season and has repaid that trust with four goals in the league – while he has also struck twice for England.
I think he has received his confidence from me and he is showing his quality,” Villas-Boas said in the Mirror. “In the summer, we told him we really wanted him here – that is why we spoke with his agent and the chairman about his contract renewal.
“He scored so many goals last season from an interrupted sequence of games. He has performed so well for this club and you have to respect the fact he keeps on motivating himself to show that.
“Now he is getting confidence from being given games from the start. He has been excellent,” continued the former Chelsea manager. “His desire and his motivation are there and his movements are fantastic. I think he will continue. He has been creating so much and has been immense for the team.”
It may be a bold claim that one man has instilled such confidence but JD has often complained about a lack of opportunities. Faith has led to a strong start but he needs to keep that going.
So what happens when Adebayor is fit and ready? Horses for courses rotation I would hope. No playing favourites like old ‘Arry used to. Bright future under this bright young manager, g’wan AVB, COYMFS
Defoe is soo good he only needs 20 shots per goal, lethal!!!
He has scored some goals but ultimately adebayor is the better striker and we grab the number one shirt.
Against Man U and Lazio he was poor. Against Reading and QPR, they are championship defenses, so he does well.

I thought though defoe didn’t score against man u he was very good. Played a crucial part in Bale’s and Dempsey’s goals.

for vertonghen’s goal, defoe pulled out wide to create the gap for him to run in.
for bale’s goal, defoe pulled evans away to clear the route for bale to run into the space.
his pass for bale for the 3rd goal, topped off a hard working performance and fair play to him.
old trafford is one of the hardest grounds in the premier league and defoe had a part in all 3 goals.
if you are going to criticise a player at least be constructive with your criticism!!

I understand where you are coming from Dave. I just feel he’s not as good against better defenders and i would pick Adebayor.
Against utd, he did well and did setup the third goal but 2nd half didn’t give us an outlet, ball just kept coming back. It’s not within his skillset to give us that.
No problem with him being a squd player, he’s better of the bench.
We would be a much better team with Adebayor.
