Several Spurs players were on winning sides across Europe last night but Gareth Bale had the most successful evening with his double strike against Scotland.

Gareth secured the first points for Wales in group A with a penalty and a trademark long range effort as Scotland’s hopes of qualification were effectively ended.

“We needed it, it’s a kickstart to our campaign, hopefully it can inspire us now for the matches ahead. We all knew coming in, it was a massive game for us,” Bale said after the game.

Jan Vertonghen’s Belgium won 3-0 in Serbia to go top of the group and now face Scotland on Tuesday night.

Elsewhere, Kyle Walker started for England while Aaron Lennon made his first full appearance for over two years at Wembley last night. Sadly for Jermaine Defoe, he didn’t get his wish to take to the field and fill his boots against a poor San Marino side.
