The exclusion of Emmanuel Adebayor from Tottenham’s starting line ups this season had led to speculation that the Togolese striker would seek a swift move away from the club – possibly as early as January.
In response, head coach Andre Villas-Boas has played down those rumours and insisted that Ade still has a role to play at the club.
“I don’t think the club will be willing to let anyone go in January,” AVB said.”
“Every player wants to play,” he added. “At the moment we have been using a structure of one striker and Defoe has been doing extremely well.
“Ade in the games he has come on in has done well. He is in contention for when we play two strikers. We have not found comfort in that formation yet. When we use it and rotate the strikers, he will be in contention.”
Adebayor should get his first start of the campaign in Maribor – although it’s far from guaranteed – but should the club take the opportunity tomorrow to play that two-striker formation?
