AVB plays down ADE sale rumours

The exclusion of Emmanuel Adebayor from Tottenham’s starting line ups this season had led to speculation that the Togolese striker would seek a swift move away from the club – possibly as early as January.

In response, head coach Andre Villas-Boas has played down those rumours and insisted that Ade still has a role to play at the club.

“I don’t think the club will be willing to let anyone go in January,” AVB said.”

“Every player wants to play,” he added. “At the moment we have been using a structure of one striker and Defoe has been doing extremely well.

“Ade in the games he has come on in has done well. He is in contention for when we play two strikers. We have not found comfort in that formation yet. When we use it and rotate the strikers, he will be in contention.”

Adebayor should get his first start of the campaign in Maribor  – although it’s far from guaranteed – but should the club take the opportunity tomorrow to play that two-striker formation?

Agree that Ade/Townsend may be should of come on sooner, but completely disagree with your assessment of Dempsey. So ok, he didn’t have one of his better displays against Chelsea, but the same could be said about MOST of the team.

Clint did his best playing in a position that is not his preferred, and the fact that Siggurdsson was anonymous in the first half and didn’t show for the ball very often, didn’t help. Dempsey is NEVER going to be a VDV type, threading the ball through the eye of a needle. But what he always offers is hard-work, intelligent movement, mobility, a fighting spirit and great goal scoring instincts.

His link up play has been simple and yet effect, with this facet of his game being a big feature in Tottenham’ recent 4 game winning run.

Dempsey should be applauded for the fact that he NEVER hides or shy’s away from responsibility, even when he isn’t having the best of games. THESE ARE THE KIND OF PLAYERS WE NEED!!!
