Tottenham’s left back Benoit Assou-Ekotto could be brought back from the international wilderness by current Cameroon coach Jean-Paul Akono as he looks to strengthen the squad.
BAE walked away from international football after a disappointing World Cup campaign in 2010 but the country are struggling and have failed to qualify for the last two African Cup of Nations. It’s said that Akono is desperate to bring some experience back into the team and has targeted Benny alongside his compatriots David Ngog and former Spurs centre half Sebastian Bassong.
There’s no comment from the player as yet as to whether he wants to add to his 17 full caps and Benny’s ambitions as a player have often been brought into the spotlight. As for Spurs, there’s no immediate concern with Cameroon out of the next major tournament but it looks as if BAE will have a decision to make in the very near future.
