Many areas of the press are linking Spurs with a January bid for Derby’s teenage sensation Will Hughes this morning. The player isn’t 18 until April but is already considered as one of the best players outside of the Premiership – but is he really good enough to command a £10m transfer fee?
Hughes made his debut for Derby in 2011 and in 227 league appearances for the East Midlands club, has scored twice. A measure of his promise came last month when Hughes won his first cap at under 21 level – coming on as a substitute for England in the friendly with Northern Ireland.
Andre Villas-Boas continues to claim that Spurs will not be active in the window but a move for a young player might be in prospect in the same way that we developed Aaron Lennon and Tom Huddlestone’s career.
The only thing that may not add up is the fee – £10m although that is believed to consist of £6m plus add-ons. As good as Hughes may be can he really justify that price at just 17?

Firstly: isn’t that the ideal scenario? To spend what you sell? Sounds perfect to me. Buy Modric for 16m. Get 4-5 seasons of good use. Sell for twice the price, and sign 2-3 players in his place. I cannot see the downside. Especially during this financial slowdown, you do not want to be spending more than you earn. Secondly: Attacking midfieder? We just signed Dempsey & Sigurdsson. We must lay in that bed. They need time to succeed or fail. May I remind you that Dempsey was signed less than four months ago? Mid-season. Even Chelsea stick with Torres. We need a striker, nothing else really.

This boy is class well worth the money. Watched him on a couple of occasions and he is and future England player.
Apparentaly we have signed sneijder all that’s neede now is llorente and a nice win at villa park to wrap up a nice Christmas at the lane 🙂
