The issue of Emmanuel Adebayor’s participation in the African Cup of Nations drags on with claims today that the striker will now join up with Togo for the duration of the tournament. The event runs from the 19th of January to the 10th of February and Ade could miss up to twelve matches during that period.

Any absence would leave the club with just one recognised striker – Jermain Defoe – as they head into an important run of matches. With Champions League qualification at stake will Spurs go back into the market for a striker during this January transfer window?

There has been plenty of rumour and also some early action from the club’s point of view but to date there’s been little talk regarding a striker. Leandro Damiao’s name has been mentioned again but to date, that seems to have been the only centre forward linked this month.

So will Ade be missed and more to the point, will AVB miss him enough to enter the transfer market once again?

  2. Freund said we hadn’t missed him most of this season .. I tend to agree. When he is off the field we look like we are back to 11 players. We still have a lot of ‘dead wood to remove in the squad if we are replacing with younger players. Under 21 players don’t count .. do they?

  3. I think we could do with someone in on loan, not sure who, as it’s easy to sit here and say ‘get a loan player in’.
Don’t really want to buy a striker in January (unless we can get Leandro Damiao), I would rather wait until the summer.
I think the rest of the team is fine, so it really is just a bit of cover for JD.
I’m guessing we could find a striker in Italy that isn’t getting much game time we could bring in for a few months.

  4. How can the club tolerate a player who was unfit at the start of the season, gets sent off against the Scum needlessly, plays with a disinterested air a lot of the time, and then swans off for six weeks.
If anyone wants him then sell him and break the bank to lure Villa to partner Defoe.

  5. Best thing that can happen for the good of the team is Adebayor going to ACN. He is a distraction on and off the field. Defoe, Siggy and Dempsey will all do a better job than Ade….sell him to a rich Chinese club who are happy to pay above the odds for players past their prime then get Leandro in or even make an offer for Michu. COYS!

  6. Hopefully, the fact that Ade is going to the Africa Cup means that Leandro is a done deal. I couldnt see AVB or Levy letting Ade go and leaving 1 striker with FA Cup, Europa League and must win premiership games looming. Ade knows he’s struggling and the writing is on the wall.

  7. I don’t see how we cannot buy a striker if Ade leaves. Perhaps someone on loan would do, but I’ve thought even with Ade here we still need another striker. We have no options on the bench in many games to change our attack, or to rotate the squad, especially with how often AVB’s been setting us up 4-4-2 lately. AND Ade’s form has been mediocre at best.
Get Damiao and/or Villa, and sell Ade in the summer.
