A story today suggests that Spurs are preparing a bid for Palermo’s highly rated Slovenian Josep Ilicic. The player has been with his present club since 2010, having joined from our recent adversaries NK Maribor and has scored 14 goals in 84 games for his Serie A side.

Ilicic is aged 24 and currently has 22 caps for the Slovenian national team. In the summer of 2011, he was thought to be a target for Chelsea but while the reports are gathering a bit of momentum this morning, they go against his agent’s comments from earlier this month.

When asked about a possible move to Liverpool, Amir Ruznic said

“Ilicic moving to Anfield? Please, I don’t know anything at all about that.

“I haven’t spoken to anybody about such a move.

“Palermo would not want a transfer to happen. I had a meeting with Palermo boss Maurizio Zamperini and he doesn’t want to hear about this kind of scenario.”

The latest report seems to have originated from the Daily Mail and while there may be little substance behind it, Ilicic does seem to be one of the better players linked with a move to White Hart Lane this winter.
