Rumours surrounding Willian the Brazilian’s future are gathering pace with the winger failing to turn up for training at Shakhtar Donetsk. The Ukrainian Premier League returns to action in March after a long winter break but will Willian be taking his place in the squad?
The 24 year old rang Shakhtar’s coach Mircea Lucescu to tell him of his decision to stay away and the boss was clearly unhappy at the news.
“The president decided to do everything possible to sign a player of Willian’s level, who already has experience of playing at a high standard. We look forward to having Willian again and I would like him to come back and behave as he did before – as a professional and decent man.”
Lucescu continued to state his hope that the matter could be resolved but he finished by hinting that a January sale could take place.
“With or without Willian, Shakhtar will move on,” he added.
Spurs are the names mentioned by most sources this morning but is it likely to be a reality considering the likely fee and wages? Meanwhile Chelsea, who missed out on Taison this month might just be a logical destination should Willian finally depart.

Willian is now in Abu Dhabi to join up with Shakhtar so don’t ready to0 much in to the reports. It will be Chelsea: willing to pay every price, higher wages, CL qualification every year,… I can only see us signing him (and a top drawer striker) if we sell Bale for big money. We are Spurs, a team with financial discipline that will be building a new stadium. The best that can happen within our constraints is Sneijder on loan and Negredo or another striker for not more than 15 million.
