Our team to face Manchester United – What’s yours?

by Matthew Harris on January 19, 2013

Sandro’s injury is the only addition to a Spurs list that continues to include central defenders William Gallas and Younes Kaboul. Head coach Andre Villas-Boas shared his thoughts on Sandro’s knee surgery while stating that Sunday’s game was ‘too soon’ for Gallas to feature.

“It might be a bit too soon for William, we’re assessing his return to squad training this week,” said AVB. “Younes is still out, but the rest of the squad is fine.

“Sandro was in outstanding form and will be missed, for sure. At the same time, we’re fortunate that we can trust the likes of Scott Parker, Tom, Jake and Tom Carroll.”

The other notable absentee is Emmanuel Adebayor so does this mean that Clint Dempsey is accommodated in a return to 4-2-3-1?

At the back, will Benoit Assou-Ekotto finally come in at left back or will Kyle Naughton continue to keep his place? Will AVB stick with Dawson and Vertonghen in the centre or will he switch things around again?

Does Dempsey have any challengers in the centre of midfield? Is Scott Parker an automatic choice to replace Sandro?

Here’s our starting XI but what’s your view?

Must find a start for gylfi, prefer him to dempsey, and quite honestly, leave benny for next week against leeds, utd is to big a game for someone returning , I’d keep with the 2 kyles, coys

Gooood morning,..

Problem is,. It’s not like weve got a lot of choice really is it?!

Hudd has been just sh*t since hes been back, very disappointing, (not just his fitness, but so wasteful on the ball too!) Jake is ‘sill learning?’ and Tom Carroll is actually still learning.

I would consider playing Caulker ahead of Dawson for this one, Man U will play with pace and movement so Daws could struggle, and Verts could keep an eye on Caulkers positioning.

I really hope BAE is fit to start as well! – Hurry up and get fit Kaboom! – What a miss big younes has been! COYS

I would go with lloris ,
Walker , Daws , Vert , BAE ,
Parker ,
Lennon , Hudd , Bale ,
Demb ,
JD.
Demb to terrorise Uniteds defence and Parker to protect ours. coys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Other than Caulker for Dawson I’d go along with that. Caulker played in the game at O/T and I think he’s more suited to dealing with the clever movement of Utd than Dawson. I’ll be interested to see who AVB picks

I agree with most of your selection but would prefer Jennings instead of Clemence, Roberts instead of Gough, Mabbutt instead of King and Ginola instead of Bale. The only players in the current crop good enough to get into this team are Vertonghen and possibly Bale and Pritchard in the future.

Yeah, that sounds fair to me. Caulker for Daws seems logical and Naughton for BAE (while he regains 100% match fitness):

Lloris

Walker – Caulker – Vert – Naughton

Parker – Dembele

Lennon – Dempsey – Bale

Defoe

Lloris; Walker, Dawson, Vertonghen, BAE; Parker, Dembele; Lennon; Dempsey, Bale; Defoe.

No disrespect to Kyle Naughton, I just feel that we stand a better chance if Benny returns. And a pick part of me would love to see Sigurdsson involved, he’s looked pretty sharp on the few occasions that he’s been involved.
