Some unlikely names have been mentioned in connection with a move to Spurs this month but could there be any truth in the rumour that the club are set to battle it out with Arsenal in a bid to sign West Ham’s Mohamed Diame?
As a defensive central midfielder, it’s an obvious link to make as cover for Sandro, particularly when the fee involved could be as little as £3.5 million.
Diame is 25 and has been at Upton Park since June 2012 when he joined from Wigan Athletic. During his time in England, the Senegalese international has made over 100 appearances and for a defensive-mid, he has a fairly respectable nine goals to his name in the Premiership.
The buy out clause in his contract is just £3.5 million but predictably, Diame himself has played down the move,
“I know there are people out there saying things about me but I have spoken with the manager and told him I want to stay,” he said.
“I know the club want to keep me so I will continue to give my best for them.”
The papers seem to think that the Emirates is a more likely destination but is Mohamed Diame a player that AVB should pursue?

Yep! he’s a typical Levy deal…
He will buy him now for £3.5 million and let him cover for Sandro alongside Parker. He will then sell Hudd and/or Livermore (prob to QPR) for a combined £10-£15 million then once The Beast is back he will either keep him for backup to Sandro and sell Scotty P or he will keep Sandro and Parker and sell Diame for a lot more than £3.5 million.
Win Win Win for Levy!
I agree with the above. If the Hud can’t cover The beast’s injury then get him out & replace with Diame. No brainer to me.

No … the the Arsehols have him … at WHU and wigan he looked good but he is not for us – we need much better quality if we are to hold 4th or even get 3rd
Not so much that Hudd cant cover, its that Levy will see £ signs for Hudd/Livermore as Harry is likely to want one or both so selling say Hudd for £7 million to QPR then spending just £3.5 on Diame means he’s made £3.5 million.
Plus he knows he could sell Diame in 6-18 months time for at least double what he paid.. everyone’s a winner (well everyone called Levy)
On another note surely we can take from Souly going out on loan that we are about to sign another striker? i know he’s not a 1st team player or even been on the bench but SURELY we can not loan out such a prospect without getting another player in before deadline day?!… surely!
rumours, rumours. Two things is for sure, come 1st February, we’ll still have JJ on our books, and we’ll still have Bentley 🙁
we dont need him no point in paying over 3 million for a player just to cover sandro for half a season all we need is holtbu who can play centre mid aswell and a striker – plus diame said he wants to stay at west ham
so you think holtby can play as a striker do you?
I’ve heard it all now i think.
in what game did you watch him be effective as a striker
he is a pure cm who this season has been pushed forward into am with great effect at shalke.
he can cover the wings at a push
As ive said loads of times Scousespurs will nab pritchard, theyve taken loads of our staff, now the youth team!
Levy pull your fing finger out man.
maximus – Holtby is NOT a holding Midfielder end of
holtby played centre mid for shalke last season he was only pushed forward this season ive seen him play he can do both roles – plus diame plays more forward than holding if you watch him for west ham – plus he is not good enough for this spurs team – not to mention we are already overloaded with midfielders
Pj – good luck to them mate, if they want to play for a middle table team let them 🙂
We take him. He’s not Champions League class but he is definitely a servicable squad player for the top 4 side in the Premiere League. Lets not deny that. I don’t think he makes the starting 11 consistently, but very useful squad player.
