The clock is ticking on this year’s January transfer window and it’s starting to look increasingly likely that there will be no new faces at the Lane ahead of Sunday’s trip to West Brom.

The club may be calling our bluff of course and while Andre Villas-Boas continues to predict a quiet day, there are suggestions that an official bid has now been made for Internacional’s Brazilian striker Leandro Damiao.

It remains to be seen whether there is any substance to that rumour but elsewhere, suggestions of a loan deal to bring in another forward may make sense.

The player in question here is Lyon’s Lisandro Lopez, an Argentine centre forward who currently has 7 caps for his country. Lopez is 29 and it’s thought that his club could be willing to listen to offers that would take him away from Ligue 1 until the end of the campaign.

His scoring record certainly fits the bill and Lopez has been a goal a game man at each of his three clubs – Lyon, Porto and Racing Avellaneda in his native Argentina.

At the time of writing, the focus is firmly on Damiao but in the event of that deal not taking place, Lopez on loan could be a sound option.

  1. It depends on which source you read, some say this loan deal broke down earlier, but we might return to him on a permanent deal, which is what the selling club want, if other “bigger fish” don’t materlialise.
Can’t see Leandro somehow, its just too good to be true and we all know that doesn’t happen to us right? Besides its probably too late in the day. I wonder, are we going to wake up Friday and be told “we missed out on Leandro by minutes” tommorrow morning as we cry in our porridge!
