Christian Eriksen is a name that has featured before on these pages but there is a strong indication that the Danish international is set to leave Ajax at the end of the season. The player and his agent are not looking to sign a new contract and the Dutch club believe this is because Eriksen is waiting to see what deals may be on the table in June.

“Christian has informed us that he doesn’t want to sign a new contract right now,”  said Ajax tehnical director Marc Overmars. “I think he and his agent want to see what opportunities present themselves this summer.

“We want him to stay here for at least two more years, but the day he leaves us, he will be ready to play for the very best. He’s a player even the biggest clubs in the world could do with having in their squad.”

Eriksen is only 20 but as an exciting attacking midfielder, there are few better in world football. Spurs are one of a number of clubs being mentioned in connection with the player but does the signing of Lewis Holtby last month turn this one into a non-starter?

  1. Not really. And certainly not Eriksen.
I am a dane having watched Eriksen performing on all the national youth teams. But nothing more. He has a brilliant technique and therefore you will see beautiful stuff from him occasionally.
But he needs to beef up. All his coaches have been telling him this for years.
He is no where strong enough to play in the PL. Even the Matas, the Oscars and so on are looking like big scary MMA-figthers compared to Eriksen.

Having said all this. I would love for him to prove me wrong. Denmark needs him. Spurs do not.
